Camp Sites Close to Great North Run Route

We are supporting family members who are running and have been coaxed into helping the organisers at the finishing line so we are looking for recommended campsites (with EHU) close to the Great North Run route between Newcastle and South Shields for early October 2008.

Ideally sites closest to the finishing line in South Shields would be best.

For the last two years we have stayed at Bents Park which is at the finish in South Sheilds. This is a council run public park which is closed to the public and is used as a camping site for the weekend of the GNR. This hasn't got ehu so it's gas and 12v, which is fine for the weekend. Everyone who camps there uses the public toilets on the park which are clean and the shower in the caravan. The site is near the Metro in South Sheilds and also on the day of the race the buses which take you to the start of the race, start outside the park so you don't have to drive anywhere. This year it cost

the council also have a site at lizard lane (adult only)but has a childrens play area ? .it is about 1 1/2 mile south of the finish,it has ehu showers, c.c.c. big sites book page 94

Thanks for taking the time to post and thanks for the suggestions.

Think we will try the one with EHU because the other half cannot go even a couple of days without her hair dryer????
