I've just heard from 'Archie' (of Archie's Camping) that he now has the corrected list of Camping Cheque sites for 2016. There are now just 591 sites - 99 sites have dropped out, and some of these are still listed in the guide book. Some of these are lovely sites such as Les Ranchisses in the Ardeche, Les Fontaines at Pernes les Fontaines, and many other real favourites. There are eight new sites.

I fear this is bad news for the Camping Cheques scheme, and indicates that there is a big problem with them retaining sites.

The correct information will be in the next download of Archie's Camping in a week or so - but here's the list of dropout sites:

AT Alpencamp - Kotschach Mauthen (01/01-31/12)
AT Hofer - Zell im Zillertal (01/01-31/12)
BE De Chenefleur - Tintigny (01/04-30/09)
BE Parc La Clusure - Bure-Tellin (01/01-31/12)
BE Spa d'Or - Sart-lez-Spa (12/04-26/10)
DE Max 1 - Egglfing-Bad Fussing (01/01-31/12)
DE Freizeitinsel - Bad Abbach (16/03-31/10)
DE Freizeitzentrum Sagmuhle - Trippstadt (01/01-31/10)
DE Eifel Prumtal - Waxweiler (15/03-31/10)
DE Augstfelde Vierer See - Augstfelde-Plon (01/04-25/10)

Hi - to explain, I now do some work with 'Archie' of Archie's Camping - and his POI files contain all the ACSI Card sites, plus the Camping Cheque sites, and also Best Deal (which isn't available to us in his country) so I keep up to date with information, and as soon as I receive any information about changes to sites I like to pass the information on.

As far as Camping Cheques are concerned, we used them from the very first year they were available, when our chldren still came with us (they're now thirty five and twenty-nine, so I would guess it must be sixteen years ago), and in those days the sites available included a lot of the Les Castels sites, and others of similar quality, so we had many really inexpensive holidays using Camping Cheques on that sort of site either during the last week in August and first in September, or over our two week holiday at Spring Bank holiday.

When our sons stopped coming with us our holidays became longer, and we continued to use Camping Cheques, and I did promote them when the sites available were still expanding in number. We bought 'cheap' Camping Cheques from other users who had spare, or weren't able to use them at all - and so got even more of a bargain. However, in the last few years it became apparent that something was going very wrong, and we heard complaints from site owners, and from other users, about flaws in the scheme. More quality sites dropped out and new sites tended to be of an inferior standard - and there were more complaints. This year more sites than ever have dropped out, and not been replaced.

I think the problem is that they didn't anticipate what a rival the ACSI card would be, with a much simpler way of using and paying for sites - simply a discount card in a guide book. Buy the guide book, use the card - simple!

Thanks for that. I wonder how many customers they will lose along with the sites. I will remain with them as long as Bois Soleil near Royan continue to take them.

Would I be within my rights to ask for a refund on the cheques I bought last month? Have been looking at costs for everything this year as there's no chance of my pension going up and everything else seems to be going up by 10% or so. Seriously thinking of giving up membership of the caravan club as most of their sites are far too expensive now.
