Hi

We are looking at booking a site in France, for 20 euro's per night, how do we find out if the site accepts cheques? We understand cheques are 13.95 per night, could someone please explain how they work, as there is a differential between values.

Thank you

You pre purchase them from agents such as the Caravan Club. They are only valid for certain mid season dates which vary site to site. Some sites even give further discounts such as 12 cheques for 14 nights stay.

They work by enticing you to use these sites for which the site owner accepts a lower return [very much by the time all the middle men take their cuts]

You should also see if the other discount system ASCI includes your chosen site in the ones it offers for 11, 13 or 15 Euro.

Camping Cheques aren't accepted at all sites, just those in the scheme - there are about 300 sites in France, and others in other European countries. It was started by a consortium of campsite owners, to attract people to their sites in what was, for them, low season. The reasoning is that it's better to have 10 people on site at

Les Sables isn't a Camping Cheque site, but does take an ACSI Card between the following dates: Period of validity: 01/04 - 04/06, 13/06 - 30/06, 01/09 - 31/10 and with the ACSI card would cost 15 euros per night instead of the normal tariff - so a saving of 5 euros per night - not to be sneezed at these days.

The ACSI website is www.campingcard.com - which will explain how it works. Basically you just buy the book (link on the website) and inside is a detachable card, which you present to the site reception when booking in - and thereafter your stay will cost 15 euros per night, and any special ACSI offers such as 14 nights for 11, will be available to you.

If you are going within the dates to use the ACSI Camping Card get your order in quick as I had the monthly newsletter this past week and they are getting short. They actually ran out of them last year in the English language.

You will not regret getting the ACSI Camping card when we go to Europe every year for 2 to 3 months we just pick their sites. There are so many sites against the few that Camping Cheques have and you do not have to fork out any money ahead. This year we are stopping at 13 sites over 12 weeks and all take the card in Germany, Austria,Switzerland and Holland.

The Camping card first came out in 2004 with just over 100 sites throughout Europe and has grown each year to 1891 sites.

Do not order from ACSI Camping Card as this is from Holland and is dearer at 12. 95 Euros + 2 Euros postage.if you order from UK www.Vicarious-shop.com it is

Or if you're a member of the Caravanning and Camping Club you can buy from them.

The 'buy now' on the ACSI Camping Card website used to take you via a link to Vicarious Books, but doesn't seem to now. We order direct from ACSI, however, as when they first publish availability you can buy at

Hi, Back again

Does anyone know if we could book the site 'camping les sables' near La Rochelle in France in advance with the ACSI camping card, we have asked this question by email to the site, but they have not answered our question, they just say they are posting us a brochure.

Val I ordered on the ACSI site as soon as it announced the 2010 book etc. and they wanted 12.95 Euros + the 2. 00 euros postage I cancelled the order as Vacarious Books had it at discounted price.
Hi Dianne - we pre-order ours in about October, and it costs
