Has anyone been to Camping Cueva Negra near Mojacar, Spain? I know roughly where it is, but not what it is like to camp there (campervan). Is it possible to walk to the Play from here?

Although we go to the general area regularly I had not come across this site before so cannot be too certain about distances etc. From the website it looks tidy although the pitches appear quite small and close together - cammon for virtually all sites in the area.
If you look at it on Google Earth, the scale bar shows it as about 500m to the beach, but probably a bit further on the small roads and paths which show up on the view.

There is a site right in the centre of Mojacar Playa which is straight across the road to the beach. Used mainly by motorvans including for rallies in Spring and part fairly heavily shaded. OK in the winter season but could easily be quite noisy when later in the season.

I've just re-read your posting. If you meant is it possible to walk to the Playa meaning the main seafront of Mojacar I would say the answer is no or at least not a good idea as the Playa is several miles long and the campsite is considerably to the south.

My comment related to the nearest point on the coast / beach which looks like just a small area with none of the amenities of the main Playa.

Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks Ray S. We camped at Camping los Gallardos twice a year for around 6 yrs, but the site started to suffer neglect and was getting increasingly scruffy, so we stopped going. That was when we had a car and caravan. As we now have a campervan we try to find sites within walking distance of where we want to be. Cueva Negra is up the hill past the Hotel Indalo. You can walk as far as the Marina Hotel, but then the road is twisty & narrow with no pavement. I wondered if there was a way (rambla perhaps) to get onto the Playa by foot.
Do you have any sites you can recommend?

We use the site at Palomares, Cuevas Mar, but it's not too close to much except Palomares village for basic shopping. We use our on board facilities so are not too concerned about toilet blocks etc.
Have friends in the residential part of Los Gallardos and the touring part of the site had a big clean up in the last year or so, but of course it does not have much within walking distance. Have you looked at the site right in the middle of Mojacar Playa across the road from the beach, quite near the roundabout with the water feature in the middle of it ?

we have visited Cuevas Mar just to have a look round a couple of years ago. We have thought about it again for our next Spanish visit, as we have friends at Villaricas. We don't usually stay in one place for all of our stay, so I think we may try the one in the middle of the Playa for a couple of weeks, and take it from there. There is also Canada Camping between Los G and Turre. What a lovely part of the world!!

We visited Cueva Negra campsite some years ago, just after it opened. Being brand new, it had the appearance of being quite a good campsite, but with perhaps a too-big ratio of bungalow accommodation to us touring folks. However, first impressions were somewhat diluted when considering the charges. What appeared to be a fairly reasonable basic long-term rate soon ballooned, as someone seems to have wandered around jotting down what could possibly be charged as extras. Besides the electricity (which was metered, thank goodness) I seem to recall there was a charge such things as rubbish collection, and other things which I honestly can't remember now but which left me aghast at the time.

The site itself is not ideally sited for anything, really. It was built in a rambla with maybe a partial sea view across part of the Macena ' beach' (which itself is just a scruffy collection of stoney shingle and soil), and anyone walking from the site down to the playa at Mojacar (perhaps three quarters of a mile away) along the fast road with no footpath are taking their lives in their hands.

There are four very reasonable sites in the Mojacar immediate area, any one of which would almost certainly meet most peoples particular requirements.
