Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a few campsites in Scotland which are open in December and accept Motorhomes. We're not looking to go any further north than Fort William and would love to camp near some Lochs and areas of outstanding beauty if possible. Any suggestions??

Not sure which route you are taking but Gibson Park Caravan Club site at Melrose is open all year.

Very handy for the shops which are literally 5 mins out of the gate & in to the High Street.

Lidalia caravan site is privately owned but affiliated to the Club and is at Newcastleton approx half hour from Gretna and the M6.The owner is extremely helpful.

Blair Drummond is also affiliated to the Club and is in Stirlingshire.Situated in a walled garden within the estate.

This shuts on the 4th Jan.

If you are coming up the A1 The Grange Caravan Club site at Durham is right beside the road and open all the year round.

I would also recommend Gibson Park, Lidalia and Edinburgh CC sites.

Another few to consider:

The Invercauld CC site

Silverbank CC site (open till January for the first time this year!)

The Woods affiliated CC site at Alva near Stirling (handy-ish for the Lochs and the Trossachs)

Another all year site is Invercoe, its next to Glencoe village which is 10 miles south of Fort William. This site is also right on the loch side,Its still sea loch is ideal for canoeing from the site and the renown Clachaig Inn is 3 miles up the road from the site, its a hikers bar and theres live music on most weekends and the real ale is second to none with usually 5 selections. The best mountain hiking in Scotland is on your doorstep and your practically guaranteed snow on the tops. Its a 20 minute drive to Fort William which is awash with takeaways of all nationalities and if you go there during the January sales you can pick up great bargains in Scotlands numerous top quality mountaineering shops which are all based there.
