No but I hope for packing up its a detachable one having seen the underside of my ground sheet on many occasions
 
I agree with JTQ that trying to keep an 'attached' groundsheet clean would be an unenviable task.

Are you sure it wasn't an inner sleeping compartment, used in tents? This sounds more feasible, but I am always willing to learn if I am incorrect. I have seen people taking the awning canvas down and leaving the inner sleeping compartment until he very last.
 
Yes it was detachable.

It wasn't an inner tent.

It was a complete groundsheet as it covered all the ground in the awning.
