Can I have a Thule awning fitted to my Caravan?

I've ordered a Bessacarr 495 but the supplier say's its not possible to fit a Thule wind-out awning because the fasteners would crush the caravan walls. He says the caravans aren't designed to have these awnings which are usually fitted to motorhomes.

Look at Rose Awnings. They specialise and have a good reputation. What many dealers do not understand is that screwing or clamping is not the only option. What I looked at before covid changed my mind, was having one bonded to the roof. If you sell the van you can take the awning and leave the brackets in place.

Thule Omnistor and Fiamma. Have options. I think the brackets are overpriced but that’s the way it is.

Hi John,
Thanks for the information. I'll talk to Rose Awnings later today.

I've looked at lots of options now and I think it's a toss-up between one of these and the Isabella Arc Air Sun Canopy. Whilst we like the look and simplicity of the Arc Air, it has to be stored somewhere in a rather large and heavy bag when not being used. One nice thing about these wind out Sun Shades is that they have their own storage solution.

Many Thanks,
Bob

Have you considered a Thule, Dometic or Fiamma type of awning in a bag which slide onto the awning rail.
It's not a permanent fitment and they roll out, there's no winding mechanism.
I had a Thule one for a while but got rid of it in favour of a sun canopy for the times I don't want to put up my air awning.
Something else to consider is the weight of these awning as they will affect the payload of your caravan.

Yes, but I think we are going to buy something similar to the Isabella air arc. Thanks for your interest.
We bought the Dometic 500 air canopy. For us it was a big mistake as we have dogs and difficult to keep them in. We have only used it for 5 or 6 nights in the past 2 years. Considering selling it now.
Probably great if you do not have dogs, Tried tethering the dogs , but did not take them long to get tangled up. :D

Unless you have your dogs total enclosed by a windbreak around your caravan, including an awning skirt. Then the dogs will always get tangled up. Our dog is always teathered around the caravan.

That is the problem with the air canopy as the sides are "loose" and an easy exit for the dogs. This means we have to have a windbreak right around the air canopy a that way they do to need to be tethered.
However we are now done to one dog having lost one a year ago, another one last month so we now only have the youngest one with us and for a terrier she is reasonably obedient. However later in the year we may get another dog.

We Lost Rex, 15 months ago,
we are not fit enough to take on another young dog, so will just sit back with the Ratter HarryView attachment 3007View attachment 3008
Looking at your dogs is a mirror image of our two we have now, our concern is that Sadie is now thirteen years old and the younger one Sammy aged eight depends on her completely. How is Harry copimg with the loss of his friend or have you put anything in place to help him and yourselves to cope with this loss?

I will not reply, as this thread is about awnings and I don't wish to diverse.
I have a friend that has the awning that hangs from the bag, he said it was good, but he was tall and still needed to stand on the vans steps to put it away,
