A straight question for which I hope I may get a straight answer - I am typing this in the 'van on site at Keswick CCC.

Further to my earlier posts of problems with the battery/power supply unit on my Bailey Senator Arizona 5 Series (2006)which may be caused by problems with the caravan psu or the battery I have now taken the battery out and put it on charge with the site warden for 24+ on charge.

Can I now run the mains electrics in the 'van from the ehu with NO battery in the 'van? THAT is the question!!!

If I can run the the electrics direct from the EHU it would make life more pleasant.

Thanks
Tim

Yes you can, but it is not recommended for long periods of time.
Make absolutely certain the battery connectors are isolated from each other with NO chance of touching.

The leisure battery provides a somoothing reservoir of energy and saves suden high demand from the PSU

A BIG thank you Damian.

We took the 'van battery out on Saturday afternoon and left it on charge with the warden for about 27 hours - on his Halford's automatic charger.

We ran the 'van on just ehu, no battery for that period. There was no problem with not having a battery in place on ehu despite the caravan's own manual saying that there must be a battery!!??

The 'van battery was showing a charge of 12.8v on my multimeter when we took it off the charger - I know that is not a reliable measurement as the battery needs to be left for several hours to get a reliable reading.

We now have the 'van back on ehu/battery and only time will tell whether the 'van's psu/charger is charging the battery. We are using the 12v electrics as little as possible in case the psu/charger is not working.

We have extended our stay to Saturday, we were due to leave on Wednesday but that will involve us moving to a non-electric pitch on Wednesday if there are no cancellations of ehu pitches for Wednesday and that back to an ehu pitch on Thursday.

Thanks again everyone your advice and support was VERY HELPFUL.

Tim

you say you have a test meter?? simply test the battery connections with the battery disconnected & with the van on ehu.you should get a reading of 13v+ this shows the charger IS working,or even simpler check you van meter with the EHU disconnected & then again with it connected you should see a rise in voltage on the van meter
