Canoe - Kayak

Hi, I am looking for a canoe or kayak for my 13 year old son to use on calm waters, he has canoed with the scouts and would like his own, where is the best place to buy a second hand one from for about £100, also what do we need to look out for. Are they small enough to fit through the caravan door but if not can go on the roof bars. Thanks in advance.

We have a sit-on-top canoe. Google Ocean Kayak or Perception to see the range. Ours fits on the roof bars just fine, and we get better fuel consumption when we travel with the canoe on top (I guess it breaks the airflow).

The biggest advantage with a sit-on-top is that you can get back on if you fall/get tipped off when out of your depth. No need to return to shallow water to empty out - it's self-draining. They are also good fun and very stable.

Thanks for your replies, I have bid on a couple on ebay, fiberglass because the plastic ones seem to go for more than I want to pay. Dave
