Car & Caravan Breakdown/Recovery Services

Can anyone let me have their thoughts and opinion or experiences please on services I hope I shall never need; that is recovery of car and caravan arising from a breakdown or accident.

Been a member of the AA for a considerable number of years but it appears their services may fall a little short of total piece of mind when it comes to the world of caravan breakdown/recovery.

Looking at the RAC Arrival package of covering two cars for roadside assistance, breakdown/accident recovery and home start.

Appears from what I am being told that even in the event of an accident, both the van and car can be recovered and if going on holiday, one can be taken first to the holiday destination and then picked up later and returned home.

Any advice or comment please on these packages or are there alternative options out there.

As I say, I hope these are precautions and will not be required.

Many thanks

PS: No intention of going abroad as have two bearded collies and no human passports!

Bernard you must also consider the maximum length of van and also maximum weight as many recovery organisation have restrictions and charge excess for over weight/length. The arrivals scheme with RAC throught the C&CC club have no restrictions on either weight or length. Also be careful that should you have trouble with the caravan and it requires transportation make sure the lorry has a goods licence as a caravan is not classed as a motor vehicle. Most breakdown recovery vehicles do not have this licence - I can speak from bitter past experience in so much that I was charged over

Bernard, RAC Arrival through CCC would be a good choice, aswell as the Arrival Return you mention they also include Re-Unite, which brings the vehicle and caravan/trailer togeather if they are separated due to a breakdown. These extras are only included with the arrival package through CCC a are not available with normal RAC membership purchased elsewhere, Hope this helps.

Consider Caravan Club Mayday, operated by Green Flag. It'll cover breakdown to car or caravan, accident to car or caravan and driver illness as well as double journey (accident to site with car + site to home with car + caravan) unlike most of the others which only cover breakdown on the car even though they'll recover the caravan as well IF you are towing at the time.
