car manuals

Just looked in the car book and it says (Do not exceed themax vehicle and trailer weight stated on vehicle id plate.

in the book theres a diagram b = gross vehicle weight and c = gross train weight.

We haven't bothered for a few years always having similar cars but we used to get the cars kirb weight and we could tow up the same weight of a van. has it changed?

It's to late to be sneaking around outside, and hubby will be gone before I'm up in the morning so I thought I'd ask.

Only if you passed your driving test after the 1st January 1997 is there any such restriction that the maximum allowable weight of the caravan must not exceed the kerbweight of the car. If it does exceed that limit you then need a category B+E driving licence. If you passed your driving test before that date, you can tow virtually anything so long as it is within the car manufacturer's spec.

Driving licence requirements aside, the car manufacturer's limits tell you what you may tow. You say that you have found details of the gross vehicle weight (the maximum that the car may weigh, including the noseweight of the caravan) and the gross train weight (the maximum that the outfit may weigh in total). The difference is the maximum permissible towload, which is the axle weight of the caravan that you are towing.
