CARAVAN ALARM

I have a new Swift on order and want to fit an Alarm. I am not fussed about tracking the van etc if stolen but want to stop thieves trying to break in or at least to let me know if asleep that it is happening. I am looking for a proximity sensor alarm and/or infra red detectors, prefrably wireless. Can anyone help please

Are you sure that your new Swift hasn't got a factory fitted alarm?

It has but nothing in terms of a proximity sensor or even touch sensor. I am aiming to stop them from damaging the van trying to gain access by scaring them off by coming to close.

Under what conditions do you want the alarm to go off?
1. As a deterrant while you are inside sleeping?
2. When the caravan is in storage away from your house? In this case it is doubtful whether anyone would react even if it goes off because it is very likely there may be no-one in the vicinity to hear it.
3. While the caravan is parked next to your house? In this case it may be easier and cheaper to install a proximity detector and alarm not on the caravan itself but stationary somewhere near the caravan and facing it.
There would be little point in having a proximity alarm on the caravan if it is on a site because it could go off unintentionally under any number of circumstances, such as when a neighbour cuts through your pitch or someone is taking a dog for a walk close to your caravan. I don't think you would be very popular with other visitors if it continually goes off every time anyone gets close to your caravan, even though they have absolutely no intention of stealing anything.

my caravan alarm is just the best, i went out and bought the ugliest caravan i could, the only alarm would be from ME the day she finally gets nicked and the theif realises what he has done!!

on the serious side i think its goochy as hell, when owners walk away from their vans with a satisfying bleep bleep!
from now on leaving my van i quickly shout BLEEP BLEEP with my hand over my mouth, turn to the wife and shout is the alarm set?? its almost as good as having one!

I am really looking for a proximtiy sensor like some motorbikes have on them which go off if you touch them, seem far to me.
The real issue is when we are asleep especially in Europe and/or in parking in service stations anyhwhere. Yes the insurance covers but when in the depth of Spain the last one wants is a busted door and lock. As for dog walkers well they will soon learn to stay clear.
I have found SleepTight Uk which works on lights and alarms but a lot of money, I was hoping for a simple solution mainly to cover the door area.

Have a look at these I have fitted them to my caravan I have the conventional alarm also but I thought if I have to stop on a motorway whilst abroad they will give added protection

They sell these in 'Pound Shops' we bought some for the windows of the house before we had double glazing. They are loud but wouldn't prevent a break in, the alarms only sound off if the door or window is actually opened which would mean that the caravan had already been broken into.

Some years ago i approached a very nice looking golf gti, when i looked in the window i show a led suddenly start flashing on the dash.
Next thing the owner comes out of his shop, the sensor had alerted him, and i didn't even touch the car window, just looked in.
So perhaps you might find a car alarm that will do the job?

Thanks on this, indeed we fitted them to the departing Avondale. Just thought with a new van costing 20k before it is done we would try for one better
