We caravan all year. Why?

Because it's our home.

No point in waiting for your local council to find you a home or pay extortinate rental on a damp riddled flea bitten hole called a private landlord letting.

Our caravan is warm cosy and all ours.

We invested in a heavy duty winerised awning by Inaca which is up all year round as we need the room. With the 18ft van and the 10ft wide awning, we have as much room as your average 1 bed flat. But we can live in beautifull rural britain which seems to be the preserve of the wealthy .

A caravan site is the true meaning of classless friendship.

Steve L.

We only bought our first caravan in July this year and have had 8 trips away already and can't wait to have a winter break in it. Heading up to Berwick for the New Year celebrations and it won't matter what the weathers like - we'll keep the heating on if need be. Christmas lights in the awning, walks on frosty mornings, knee deep in snow - all hopefully part of the fun and our grandkids will have a ball no matter what the weathers like.

I think the adults going are more excited than the kids! Can't wait so don't let the fact it's not brilliant sunshine and 30' outside stop you from enjoying your van - we certainly won't.
Where do you go in Berwick for New Year? Just out of interest. We are 1hr away from that coast and are using our van all year round for the first time. Thanx

We love winter caravanning Lisa, the sites are quiet, OK the weather my not be great, and of course it's dark, but we'd be sitting at home doing the same thing in the evenings as we would in the 'van - so we go out, simply for a change of scenery. For somebody who suffers from SAD as I do, this is a relief, it definately break the winter up!! :O)
Exactly same reasons as I. Also sleep better in the van

we also caravan all year, for much the same reasons as Steve L, sold up 3 years ago , bought the caravan and life has been great since, took the first year off work all together, I now only work 2-3 days aweek as and when I feel like it ( within family business )I now have numerous Country properties all with their own gardener's any of which I can choose to stay at as and when I feel like ( commonly known as CL / CS sites )so what more could I want, you couldn't get me back in a house for love nor money........Mark

All year round - because we have seasons that each bring their own pleasures....autumn in Lakes, winter in Dales...long walks in the snow...coming back to the warm van and cosying up...wrapping up and sitting outside with a warm drink or cold beer in the winter sunshine....Xmas with the tree and twinkling lights outside and inside the van......Mmmmm!!! - Can't wait for the weekend!!

Enjoy.

we go all year round, after all what's the point of 16K sitting on the drive for six months of the year. A head torch helps ease the setting up in the dark, keeping the hands free. Still don't pay for electrics in the winter as the solar panel seems to keep things ticking over nicely and the umberella keeps me dry with the cadac on the go. The worst bits, one wet poodle, but who needs the winter for that, and wet fields to tow sunken motor homes out of when they get in a pickle with no tractor around and hey doesn't need to be winter for that either. I suppose it is a bit of an inconvienience to have to shovel the snow out if the way to put the legs down but other than that. A weekend away is usually cheaper than a weekend at home and I hate to think of the number of jobs I would have to do at home if we weren't away

We caravan all year round but still only clean the van once or twice a year but then do it very well. Just like the car, I cannot see the point in cleaning something that's going to get dirty the minute its on the road again and only wipe the lights over for safety reasons. Never had any problems with damage to car or van and the dirt provides an extra layer of insulation too!

Sorry but we spend most of the winter in Tenerife (without van)

Not into all that white stuff or cold.

Haven't spent a complete winter in the UK for 25 years.

Hi Caroline - We're staying 4 nights at Ord House Country Park.

We were there in August and the site is really impressive with a good clubhouse and excellent meals.

I found out about their New Year Party on their website and as we usually stay at home for New Year thought it would be fun to at least try it - and it's an excuse for getting away in the caravan too!.

Well we are neither of the above but have just had a beautiful weekend away on a CL near Ledbury. Walks in the frost and warm tearooms to explore.

We think we went down to -8 on one night but stayed nice and warm inside the caravan. The aqua rolls didn't freeze wrapped up in skiing jackets but the pipe from the barrel to the caravan froze solid in spite of two layers of domestic pipe insulation. Once we had thawed that out we found that we had cold water back at the taps but no hot water. It turned out the hot water pipe had frozen somewhere near the heater inside the caravan in spite of the hot water being switched on. We diverted one of the blown heating air pipes to blow at the hot water heater and that has that thawed out in about 10 minutes. I think if we left the flap open under that seat overnight another time, it would probably prevent the hot water pipe freezing up.

We are very pleased that we returned home the day before yesterday as we are now completely snowed in on our hill near Ross-on-Wye

Tim..... that's what I call 'just in time'.

I carry an old 500watt-hair drier and a small extension lead in case a bit of thawing is necessary.(it is earth leakage protected!)

When we were permanent we never had any issues all year round. however in December for the first time ever we had the water pump pipe freeze up on us although the water in the barrels was not frozen. We generally warm up the locker in front to prevent the hot water pipe freezing as this happened once to us many years ago.
