But the problem with both of the major club sites, is that they are normally not within A mile or two of a pub or restaurant. There are a few exceptions but they are totally booked up a year or so before or are closed during winter months.

Club sites provide what we want which is basically a pitch on a well run site. We do not want lots of facilities we would not use so if clubs and the like became the norm we would probably look elsewhere.
As for price they are not cheap but if you check the cost of sites in the PC magazine then you will find them not a lot above average in most cases.
So far this year we have only ventured off club sites once this year going to Naburn Lock near York. This is very similar so suits us but has only 10 amp electrics and saves only about £2 a night against Beechwood Grange when it is open.

The last few we have used have been within 10 minutes walk to a hostelry, Bath Chew Valley, Daleacres,Black Knowl, Melrose Gibson Park and Strathclyde Country Park.
I don’t think it is all doom and no beer Hutch. Ah , there’s also Moreton in Marsh.
I agree others are pub less without a car or bike but on the whole not too bad. :cheer:

Just tried booking up for Castleton caravan club site down the Peak District for next Easter for a few nights but fully booked on website , I rang site direct and asked and he told me he ad service pitches available and when I got a price for that it was going to be over £160 for 3 nights ! I can't afford that for 3 nights but we've managed to get Keswick for the same bank holiday Easter weekend for £8o !
Unbelievable !

Oh yes , totally agree, the prime pitches sites and Castleton is one . People book the new 13 months ahead. No deposit, and dont turn up. You would like it there though.

If you Think club prices are high, look in the latest PC and you will find one site with a maximum high season charge for two plus hook up as £70. Not sure who pays that but it made be look at least twice.

In forty years I ‘ve never ever got onto Castleton nor Chatsworth. No worries. Club site at Buxton is great, freely available and a fantastic dog walk by the site.
Some sites in Derbyshire are booked by weekenders who never turn up, don’t say so and deprive those who would like a week. The issues on these sites have been done to death on here over the years,. There are much better available ,cheaper and just as good!

So the sites are off the same club , so within a 9 week period from next weekend we had three site bookings , Barnard Castle coming in at £6o.6o ,
Knaresborough in November coming in at £56
and White Water Park at Teesside coming in at £36 , all for the same thing , arrive Friday stop Saturday leave Sunday , 2 adults 2 kids , what a difference in price........ ?!?

It’s called supply and demand. You don’t know the operating costs of each which include fixed costs and variable costs. It’s the same as booking a Premuer Inn prices vary by location, date, and time before arrival. The clubs will modify pricing depending on demand. It’s a business.

Ps wouldn’t a 9 week period cover two different price seasonal bands. There might be a school holiday somewhere in that period. That will influence prices. A better comparison would be all three site prices for the same occupancy and dates.

Craig, try the private site at Belford, near Bamburgh, very nice site, great little village, closer to the village than Barnard. And better prices I think.
