Caravan Battery Charger

I've taken the battery out of my Buccaneer Argosy to keep it on charge for the winter. Can I leave the mains electricity connected to the caravan so that the alarm battery is kept charged all the time without the main battery connected? Grateful for any advice. Alan

You do not say how old your van is , but if it Is a recent model van it probably has a smart charger built in which removes the need to remove the battery.
If you do remove the battery make absolutely certain that the connector clamps cannot touch each other !!!!!

Thanks for that. The van is 2007 model. As far as I know the built-in charger only gives trickle charge whereas my charger gives a boost charge and cyclic charging. The van battery clips are kept well apart! The mechanic at my (previous) dealer told me not to keep the van charger on permanently as it could overheat and fail.
