CARAVAN BRAKING

Hi,
Just had a Axle rebuilt by ALCO but the caravan bangs into the back of the car on breaking. The local dealer says the damper and brakes are working. It seems to me that the overrun to apply the caravan brakes is not coming in fast enough. Any thoughts. They tested the damper by pushing it to feel the degree of resistance.

A few years back I had a similar problem on my Alco hitch. It turned out to be a collapsed rubber ring washer that takes the initial shock, it's located round the shaft and is about 1/4" square in section.I sent away to Alco gave them my hitch details and they sent me a replacement problem solved.

The caravan certainly shouldn't bang into the back of the car. If theoverun damper and the brake linings are ok and correctly adjusted check the cables or linkages.
