caravan/car question

Hello,

I am about to get into the whole caravan scene and I am looking for a little advice.

I drive a 2.0ltr Petrol Volvo S40 - 2001 plate, and am wondering would it be up to the job of pulling a 2 berth caravan? If it wouldnt, could someone please advise me what car would be perfect without spending £40,000 on a giant mammy wagon.

Thanks for your time and advice.....

Hello Benjamin and Welcome to the forum

Have a look at Towing Law which will provide guidance about weights and driving licence requirements first of all.

Your starting point has to be the kerbweight of your car and any towing weight limits that the manufacturer may have specified for your model.

Many advisory bodies such as both main clubs advise those new to towing to aim for a towing weight which is 85% of your vehicles kerbweight, this is not a legal requirement but 85% is considered to be a safe limit.

If you re post your question in the Towing, Driving & Safety section of this forum you may receive further advice from members.
