Hi all i clean the outside of my van on a weekly bases,how do you stop black streaks appearing please?

Hi,

I don't think you can stop black streaks appearing. These are one of the joys of owning a caravan. However there are a few good products on the market that hold them at bay for a few weeks at a time. I have found a couple of products in the Fenwicks range that are quite good. One removes the black streaks and the other prevents them staining for a while. I have also found it helps to keep the roof clean as a dirty roof drips down the sides when wet making even more marks.

Mark i use Silvo to clean off the black marks it comes in a tin silver and blue in colour its like a cloth inpregnated with some kind of cleaning stuff just rub it on wipe off with bry kitchen roll also very good for cleaning crome/kitchen sink and a lot of otherthings on the van but NOT windows

Mark, The cheapest and easiest way to remove black streaks is any furniture spray polish on a cloth and wipe them off.Do,nt waste your money on all these fancy products.You can use it in the awning rail too it lubricates the channel and makes awning feeding a doddle. J.Lo

I use Fenwicks Overwintering and that repels black streaks well

I also have awning piping in the awning rails to shed the water off the sides and avoid the black streaks

I used a polish on my van in October when I bought it, I forgot to complete half of the rear panel due to rain, and iv,e noticed 8 weeks later that the half I did,nt wax was badly covered in black vertical lines whereas the part I did wax was faintly streaked. That tells me that waxing/polishing your van greatly reduces the prob although it does.nt eliminate it all.

Hi Watson (john G) I am thinking of changing from a caravan cover to fenwick,s overwintering next year. How do yo apply the stuff. The only way I can see to get good coverage would be to spray it on with one of these pump up spray garden things or would it clog up the nossle.

I just spray it on with a garden pump up sprayer and smear it over with a wash mit as it runs down

I also use Fenwicks overwintering liquid. I just use a garden sprayer on a very fine mist, this avoids runoff, and you can spray into all the little crevices where algae would nomally acumalate. Note what it says on the container about using a slightly extra strong solution to clean it off. I again use a garden sprayer doing a part of the caravan at a time. Comes up like a new pin.I also have a small quantity of 50/50 solution in a small hand sprayer for stubborn marks. If I do use the van during the winter I do not bother to wash it before or after.
