I just rang a site Ashridge, in Hertfordshire, and was appalled by the crass rudeness of the female warden. I just said the I wanted to make a booking, and before words out of my mouth she fired off...cant do anything for you this weekend, next weekend or weekend after. Try later, and put the phone down.

I must say that I have always felt that CC is an elitist operation

Phil

Your Message timed at 08.59am and you said that you had just rang the warden. So that would be say 8.30am at that time in the morning I would be a bit rude. Try ring about 9.30 on you wil get a better response.

If its full for 3 weekends at 8.30 its probably going to still be full at 9.30

Its a shame that club members get such a reception and its remarkable because most wardens/stewards are long suffering but most helpfull

If I was you I would phone head office and complain.

It is these minority of wardens that get the rest a bad name and lets be fair most of them are really good being very helpful no matter what time you phone.

If they cannot be bothered with the phone at 8.30 I would hate to think of the response you may get at 6.30pm.

Some people just cannot help having a bad attitude and fail to understand words like manners and service whilst others just flourish at it.

It may sound harsh to phone up and complain but I believe you will be doing the good wardens a favour as they probabaly hate getting tarred with the same brush.

i would certainly ring head office to complain.

As for Stephens comments , If the warden chose to answer the phone , no matter what time of day it was, to a customer they should do so politely.

Its called Customer Service and too few people this day and age adopt it.

I think Phil has every right to be angered by his treatment.

I'm personally sick of ignorant rude people taking money off me. It costs nothing to be polite and friendly. Only yesterday my wife was out shopping and a middle aged shop assistant was quite rude to her , no politeness at all.

So SWMBO politly asked for 2 all singing all dancing ice cream cones and then when the menial asked for the money (no please or thank yous) the wife gave her a lecture on how our 3 year old son had more manners and promptly walk off leave said menial with ice cream dripping down her arms!

Are you sure it was the "Warden" and not a female assistant??

A lot of people are trying to buck the system by phoning the sites direct even though we all know bookings cannot be made until the 17th December. Well that is the sites open next year. Maybe these poor wardens have so many calls asking the same thing they get into "routine" r3ecorded message style.

When did you want to go?

Cheers

Alan

You're right Roger, it does cost nothing to be polite and friendly. I'm a shop assistant in a local 'corner shop' (albeit one which is rapidly taking over the world!!) and am always polite and friendly towards customers, even when they don't extend the same courtesy to me! I'm even polite to ones who call us 'menials'!!!!!!!! ;-)

Hi All

The point I was trying to make booking service times on sites are from 09.00 to 17.30 hrs. It does clearly state that in the Caravan club Site directory handbook. The wardens have a life to and have to put up with a great deal of greaf of people.

Hi Stephen I think that my posting agreed with what you say about long suffering wardens

I looked on the CC website out of interest and though I can find bookings from CC as 9am I couldn't see on the specific sites any times posted

Usually they are switched to answer phone when its inconvenient

Regards

John

When I was but a mere lad, my mother & father always drummed it into me "civility costs nothing" & if I was impolite, it always cost me a clip round 't lug hole.

hence, to this day I'm always polite & civil

Thank You!

It should not matter at what time of the day you rang ,there is not need for any kind of rudeness. When ever i have contacted the CC i have always got first class service.

I am sorry that you had a less than helpful response from a CC warden; I have always found them to be unfailingly polite and friendly. I am also disappointed that your post is entitled Caravan Club WARDENS and that you end with '...I have always felt that CC is an elitist operation.'

You seem to be condemning a large body of hard-working people based on one isolated incident with one(unidentified) individual and feel that your post is out of proportion to what happened.

Over to you then Phil !!!!!!!!!
I've done what a lot of us should do when we get less than satisfactory customer service...complain like hell. We're not too hot on that in UK, are we? The more you put up with shoddy goods and shoddy service, the more you get pushed off with bad customer service. When my sub is up for CC, it will not be renewed. There are plenty more sites abound which are not CC operated. I am sure my one gesture will not have a great deal of effect upon CC, but maybe my custom and money will be more appreciated elsewhere.

as far as I am concerned, a chain is only as strong as the weakest link, nor do I see why I should pay

I must say Phil you are chopping off your nose so to speak by leaving the CC because you had one bad experience. It should not have happened, and you are right to be indignant. You should complain. But just stop for a moment. While there is no excuse for poor service, there may have been something going on at the site you are unaware of. I try to be polite and civil all the time, but I know at times I have been short with someone because I have been stressed. And it wasn't their fault. But we are all human.

I would try again, and next time I am sure you will get a different response. I would hope so anyway.

Phil,

Cutting the cr*p here , have you telephoned the site after 9.00am and tried to book?

Never judge a bok by its cover. We still have no evidence it was a warden you spoke to??

Cheers

In answer to the number of posts questioning why book through the site - I tried to make a late booking at the club site at Bristol just before last Xmas. I tried online and by phone direct to the CC but the site was full.

As a last resort I rang the site direct and got my booking without any problem. It could be that when there is a cancellation it might not get from the site to the computer. So always worth a ring direct.

Hi Clive,

Some of the real good wardens unofficially keep a space or two in reserve, but no one will ever admit that will they? And nor should they.

Cheers

All CC wardens have 5% of pitches under their direct control the rest can only be booked via the internet or by phone. The 5% is a contingency thing just incase of problems on site like bad weather. However if they don't envisage any problems they are free to book them.

We use Ashridge regularly for weekend breaks as it is only a few miles away , a lovely site near a gorgeous village with nice people and a stunning church, the wardens are lovely but, Oh, one lady who works there is SO rude, it is certain she is in the wrong job, She is quite sharp , we had visitors come over one time in July, they came up to us saying the woman on the desk was so miserable , She Must be the same one !
