Hi emmo

I think for the first time ever, we might disagree on this.

Even though I can take my holidays whenever I want, I do like to plan ahead. If a site only has say 35-50 pitches, then the law of averages must state that someone is not going to get a pitch when they would like it.

Anyway, there's an email on its way to you as I tried to book you know where for you know what but their email address no longer exists and this will mean you finally get to meet you know who next June for the event of the year.

Keep it quiet.

No Brian, I'm not. LOL!!

What I meant was, in hindsight, maybe I should have written, 'I've tried to book the campsite for the horse fair next year (emmo usually has his vintage caravan rally at that time at the campsite I'm referring to but the email address bounced back and Phil will be in attendance' (under duress).

Sorry, been to Tesco and got Frixenet half price. Cough cough.

But Retford's not far away from you, is it?

I just cannot believe some people are so anally / orally retentive! You cannot be the pleasant and considerate people I've met on CC sites. Just get a life and find something real to worry about!
No I am inconsiderate and selfish and never speak to any one on a CC site as we like our peace and quiet without nosy parkers twittering on about the weather and peeking out from behind curtains!!

Guess what....I just tried to book online with CC at 22.40 on Sunday 21 Dec...and what came up...our online advance booking service is very busy.

At 22.00 odd on a Sunday night...I don't think so...broken down yet again I think would be the correct phrase!

Even at midnight last night!

I just hope they really aren't this busy cos I will never get a space.

It's clear that there are problems with the CC system.

I had the same experiences as reported by people above although when I persist I've managed to make about 4 bookings.

I've had problems with the booking just looping back to the start over and over again.

I also cancelled one booking but subsequently found that it still existed.

I had most success using 'fast track' - may be worth giving that a try.

I think this statement could well sum it up for all of you, I called to the the C.C. stand at the N.E.C. and asked for a copy of the camp site regulations or how could I obtain a copy.

I was dirrected to the Caravan and Camping stand

Hi Wayne

As a member of the cc I think the big problem is

when you book you pay no money, most sites want 50%

up front and the rest two or three weeks before you

arrive, one of are favourite sites Black Knowl, seems booked

up all the time ,ring near the time no problem because

of cancelations,if people had to part with money I

think things would be different.Just got back from

Baishey afer spending New Year there ,I am sure the house is colder than the Caravan.

Hi everybody. new member to this forum, although we have been vanning for many a year.

The CC for us is the tops, and if they did not have a very well organised systems and rules and regulations, the club would IMHO just not exist.

The CC has around 500,000 members and I am sure that if the club were getting it wrong, then this number would soon reduce.

I find on my travels that many, many people regard the CC as being the standard that all sites should attain, together with the rules and regulation that is required for the club to keep those standards, and I would be pleased to see that any changes that are to be made are democratically discussed before implementation. Regards and have a healthy 2009

As a non UK residents we are members of the caravan club I think we fit in with a lot of others in that our membership is based on other services that the CC offers and not the CC sites.

When we last had our caravan in the UK we could not get on CC sites most of the time. But then found availability when calling on a Friday night or Saturday morning.

At another time we have also managed to fight our corner and hang about a site at the end of week and then be told that we could stay as the usual pre bookers had not bothered to turn up.

Quite a few of our family and friends in the UK have all but given up on booking with the CC as so many sites are pre booked.

The CC may have GOOD sites but they are not exactly top class, and the pre booking with no deposit is a backwards dark age practice that has excluded and alienated many club members or now ex members.

If you want to pre book you should pay 50% non refundable deposit and a further non refundable 30% a week before arrival time and final payment on arrival. Insurance against illness or accident could be an added option and the money the club would be holding and investing should keep prices down and aid the aquisition of new sites.

Pre booking of weekends months ahead seems to cost the club week day booking of pitches from what we and others we know have found.

Non deposit issue must be costing the club and members more money than just the "no shows" if you give it some thought.

Sheila,

I agree with many things you have said about the caravan club.

However you have missed the point of this thread.

A new software system for bookings was started on the 3rd December 2008. This was going to solve all past problems with bookings, however over the past few weeks it has caused more problems than it has solved. As i discovered today problems still exist and are being worked on.

I am sure that the club will get it sorted in the end, but it is my opinion that only large deposits, say 20% of the total cost, will solve the problem of speculative weekend bookings and also speculative whole week bookings.

We only use Caravan Club sites and being retired caravan for many weeks of the year. However touring is becoming more and more difficult due to the weekend bookings.

Hamer,

Perfect! Speculative weekend bookings. It's these bookings that ae spoiling it for everyone. I'm still against deposits because of the admin cost sto the club but when some members abuse the "free" booking system grrrr. Maybe there should be a restriction that no one member may have more than two outstanding weekends booked at a time??

Cheers

Alan
