Hi there

I have been carrying out my own tests on caravan covers.

First cover I purchased was a cheap nylon cover, with two zips at the front and the makers claimed no guarantee. It had nylon straps but the type that hooked onto the under side of the caravan. The cover itself was a bit like the old pack-O-macks, thin and was water-proof to a point. Price paid £39.99. Still in good condition and used every summer now to keep gull stuff off the van. This cover not water-proof and does make the van sweat.

2nd cover. Purpleline breathe-tec cover, green woven, nylon straps. I found it heavy for one person to put on the caravan. You need two people and no wind. Had to remove the tv aerial or it would have pulled it off when pulling the cover from the back of the van to the front. The zips in all 4 corners is a good idea and does help. I have had no problem with them. The cover has lasted 2 years, that's 2 winters only and now is falling to bits. You can rub your hands on the green weave material and it falls apart in your hands. The nylon straps go right under the caravan and do keep the cover in place in the most strongest of winds. I went for this cover because I own a bailey ranger 460/4 17ft long and have found some covers do not fit the bailey shape of caravan they are a little bit more boxy (not sloping at the front) so more material needed. Price was £89.00.

3rd cover will be Maypole breathable cover silver in colour.Just purchased Tesco and will go on the caravan end of this year we will see how long this one will last.

Hi Stephen

I was interested to read your posting on covers and concur with your findings. Several years ago we had a tailor-made cover which we were not pleased with due to marking and as stated, difficulty of using etc. Until very recently we had a lightweight one similar to the one you described and upon recent removal it fell apart, although it had done a good job in protecting the caravan.

I will be interested in how you get on with your latest test.

My experience is that you get what you pay for. We had a Pro-tec cover for our small caravan when we returned to caravanning some three years ago. We paid over

Hi John

Yes you do usually get what you pay for. However, the made to measure cover we DID pay for was a Protec and we ended up with a caravan covered in marks which never totally were removed, despite a thorough cleaning, drying of the van before putting the cover on. Protec were disinterested when we contacted them although they did admit they had heard of this before. Had we bought cheap then maybe that was an explanation but at nearly
