Let me tell you about my experience with a well known dealer in west yorkshire.
Two years ago i bought a used 1999 caravan for £9000, which i part exed my 1998 caravan against, and when they accsessed it they said it had damp. I refused to pay anymore cash, and hooked my caravan up, when the dealers sales manager came down and told me they would stand to the repairs ( which by the way was rubbish as i had damped checked the caravan before i px ) and bought the new van.Two months later i took my new van back for some panel rot repairs and floor rot i had found. When i collected it they told me they had repaired it and was no damp.
This thursday i went back to the same dealer to pick up a new caravan and px the caravan i had bought from them. Once again as i was been shown around the new caravan they came and told me there was damp in my caravan i was px. The damp was in the places they should have repaired, i told them to check there records, but amazing they couldn`t find the paperwork. I told them i was not paying anymore money, they told me to leave the van and would have a trader look around it friday, i told them no i was taking it away and got my deposit back.
The best bit about this story is we went away on friday in our van and as we turned the water on there was a leak under the seats at the front, this was not there when we last used it and on closer inspection it had a pin prick in it, just the size of a damp meter!!!!!!.
ANYONE WHO IS TRADING A VAN IN BEWARE OF THIS SCAM WITH TRYING TO GET MORE CASH OUT OF YOU BY SAYING THEIR IS DAMP.
I am glad i didn`t buy the new van as ours is a lot better quality even if according to the dealer it has damp!!!!!.
