Caravan development over the last 100 years

Hi,

I am interested in how caravans have come along since they first became popular (after the second world war I think???) and I am trying to find a resource that can give me info on how caravans have developed from then til now.

I am talking in terms of features and technology more than anything. I can't seem to find anything!

Any help wpuld be great.

You could try the two volumes - split by date detailing the history of caravans written by Andy Jenkinson - google should produce details not sure if they are still in print.

Also for the developments up to the 70s there was a book called'The History of the caravan' by WM Whiteman - long since out of print and it took years for me to find one but worth a try.

Also the Caravan Handbook by John Wickersham (Pub:Haynes) has a chapter on development.

Bailey did a suplement on their 60 years in caravanning that was writen by Andy Jenkinson - that may be available either on their website or elsewhere online. Granted it will be a bit of self congratulation, but it may give you some ideas.

Thanks for mention of two books I wrote on caravan history - also motorhomes to. Now out of print but you may get a copy at one of the many book shops at Hay On Wye. If your lucky you may get the first edition then in hard back and diffrent front cover. Whitemans book was good I got my copy from the publishers in - well 1974!! It doesnt or mentions very little of makers such as Elddis, Swift, Lunar or Buccaneer. Good hunting for the book-in meantime you can have a slice of history with my 2009 classic caravan calendar special offer

For Bailey history - Bardsea Leisure had copies of this - also keep an eye out for 40 years of Lunar again written by myself - coming out next month. Also Scottish Caravanner mag I did two issues in pictures of 100 years of the caravan.

Yes calendars will be there- 2 for price of one if you see me! See Bob on stand to get him to ring me if I am not about - I will be at show from tues to sat
