Quote " do you know what I would be looking at price wise to call a caravan engineer "

A lot less than a new caravan if yours catches fire.

Is the Zig dcu 15 unit new or 2nd hand.
Do as Damien says and avoid a fire.
cables are not supposed to get hot unless something very serious is wrong.

I think you've read this the wrong way - I think the OP was asking if anyone had any idea how much an engineer would cost.

..........I would double check the charger 12 volt output in respect to polarity.
Is the charger output correctly wired to the caravan?
Do not make any assumptions as to colours of wires or their polarity as fitted in a caravan!
The connection must be positive to positive and negative to negative.
Are the output wires of the correct gauge (thickness) ?.......this should have been recommended by the charger manufacturer.

Why are you fitting a new charger?.........is there a wiring fault in the caravan that caused the old charger to fail?
Could that be the problem?

Cables should not get hot at all!
If there is a fault, there's usually a fuse which should protect against excess current. If a fuse hasn't blown, it raises the possibility something has been wired incorrectly, or has gone faulty.
