Yes both Volvo and VW have moved away. I read a road test of a Volvo and the reviewer absolutely slated it, the more so from a company renowned for its approach to safety. I just would not buy a car with all touch screen controls. I guess I could use the voice activation, but memory issues (mine) would probably negate that in current generation cars. What I would require is an intelligent chat bot, that could fathom out my needs, and ignore the expletives. A super Siri, or amazing Alexa.
The Jeep had voice activation, but you needed to say the exact phrase. Sadly I couldn't remember most of then except for calling. However by the same token the screen on the Jeep did not have sub of sub of sub menus so easy to access.

My Santa Fe also has voice activation on radio and things, I forget to use it,
As yet voice activation has descended to caravans, it is probably used. On motor homes for when driving though.

At least when using my TomTom voice activation was a breeze.
