Caravan fuses

On the side of the consumer unit in my T@B is a 5amp, 32 v blade fuse. I want to get a spare. Will any 5 amp blade fuse be suitable or are fuses voltage rated?

Hi,

In general, the voltage marked on a fuse is the maximum safe working voltage of the fuse. It describes how the fuse functions once it has blown - yours means that at voltages up to 32 volts, the supply voltage can't restrike across the gap.

Higher voltage rated fuses will fail and leave an even larger gap.

So it sounds as if that fuse was meant for your 12 volt system.

Most fuses I see are rated at x amps and 250 volts, some I know are rated at 440v or above but not something I would use.

Blade fuses commonly found in cars and caravans are I would think almost exclusively for 12v systems and therefore rated at a maximum of a rather peculiar 32v. I've only seen an amperage rating and or a colour to denote what they are, (red is 10A), and never up to what voltage, personally I thnk yours then are rather posh!

...are rather posh... but nevertheless no different to any other blade fuse

As a guide...

Purple 3A, Orange 5A, Brown 7.5A, Red 10A, Blue 15A, Yellow 20A.

My thanks to all who contributed. I asked the supplying T@B dealer where I could get a spare fuse and he sent me some. They are 5 amp and look like any 12 volt 5 amp fuse. It just seems very srange that the original is stamped as 32v
