Caravan Insurance companies

Our caravan park recommended a particular Insurance company last year, looking at go compare I could save around £150 on the cheapest policy, I get cheap doesn't mean good, cos you need them to pay up if you claim, and be able to talk to someone etc not just deal online, but is Frank Pickles any good?

I did search for them and the last post was from 2020 I believe.

They are well established brokers but as you say very rarely mentioned on the Forum. Perhaps members are conservative when it comes to their caravan insurance.

One area to look at could be the FCA/Ombudsman site as that may show any complaints raised and judgements. That’s where you get a feel of customer satisfaction wrt claims rather than the reviews which tend to relate to the ease of taking out a policy.

If a supplier (i.e. caravan site operator) to you is "recommending" a particular company, there is a good chance there is some "understanding" there will be a financial link such as payment of a commision or other benefit to the your supplier if you take up the offer. Don't forget that any premium or set up costs will be funding any commision.

You should ask if there is any incentive for the supplier to promote a particular business

I would be very surprised if there is any legal imperative that you should use your suppliers recommendation.

Find an insurer that provides what you want in terms of service and cover and claim performance at a price your prepared to pay.

According the companies house they are an insurance broker rather than an insurer, so they do not make the payout on a claim, but they might be able to assist when making a claim easier.

I asked my sites community group who they use, and none of them said the recommended one, most use Ceta which is like go compare to search.
The prices vary from being the same as my renewal quote, to around £50 to £90 less, I nearly bought one policy with a £60 saving, only reading the small print I'd have to buy a wheel lock lol.

A wheel lock, I would think is almost universal on all caravan policy's,
Are you talking about a seasonal pitch?.

I am not with Ripe so cannot comment from experience, but I did look at them when our renewal came up. The reviews by folks who actually made a claim are pretty dire and rather put me off.

Some years ago we were seasonal and we had Frank Pickles caravan insurance very reasonable quote and we have also had Caravan Guard when we were touring .

I think reviews on how claims were handled are more important than the process of them taking your money! In the past 20 years we claimed twice off the CAMC and once off Towergate with no issues.

I have used Caravan Guard for 3 Years. They get good reviews and supply regular information.
I have not made a claim (and hope it stays that way) but they are easy to contact and you speak to people who seem to know what they are talking about.
