I wonder if anyone handles the caravan security when tow car is repaired for breakdown. I don't know where the caravan is transported to. If the caravan is parked somewhere for time being and you are not allowed to stay in overnight, how do you secure it? I asked caravanguard, they said you need their approval of storage change. If they reject it, Who can cover the caravan? not sure if car breakdown covers it.

If you are with Caravan &Camping Club Arrival or Caravan and Motorhome Club Mayday breakdown cover ,they will either take you to your destination or home so you would not be away from the caravan.

CC Mayday will take you and the caravan to a local repairer if you choose.

This is another caravan insurance question, where the answer has to be read you caravan's insurance terms and conditions, because there is no standard the insurers have to follow. Each company can use whatever terms and conditions they like, they don't have to follow any specific model.

You should read and fully understand them before you agree to take out a policy. If there is a question such as the one posed above, you must resolve it with your insurer, You cannot assume all policies will be the same, or provide the same cover.

As Prof said you must read your caravan insurance policy wording and fully understand all the Ts & Cs. And the same for your breakdown cover.

My take has been the same for years. The two Clubs caravan insurance policies and breakdown covers have been designed to give us caravanners what is arguably the best of all covers. NB .You must read and understand what you are getting.

As an example CAMC breakdown cover gives three levels of available cover .

Maybe not the cheapest but I can sleep at night😉

My concern is if caravan is insured when it is parked outside of local repairer for one or two days.
If the car needs more than a few hours work, I'd want the caravan taken to a site where we could spend as many nights as it takes to repair the car - that of course is the advantage of CC Mayday which includes multiple journey cover. That's the breakdown cover but eliminates any issue with the caravan insurance.

Yes, that is the best choice if breakdown insurer can arrange and tow caravan to a available campsite nearby. MAYDAY doesn't cover Europe.

The CMHC have overseas travel insurance that does given comprehensive cover to car, caravan and travellers. It’s Red Pennant.

When we had a serious breakdown last year and the car and caravan needed to be recovered, Mayday took car and caravan to a secure storage near the breakdown location and transport the caravan and car back to West Midlands 3 days later.

When in their storage I would think that it is their insurance that is liable in the event of a mishap as they have put the units into their safekeeping.
