Not everyone agrees but many think that Caravan Club insurance is excellent value, few exclusions, reasonable security requirements and few quibbles if you do need to claim - it's best though to opt out of Contents cover and use an extension on your house insurance (Items away from home) for best value.

Be careful opting out of contents cover as windbreaks are not covered as caravan equipment neither is your satellite dish plus crockery, cultery, pots and pans. In our case £700. Your TV and digi box are also not covered by contents or equipment but my ylur home insurance so make sure that you notify your home insurance that these are in the caravan from time to time. This was confirmed to me by the CC this afternoon.

I just have £5,000 for "Possessions away from home" - more than covers all the equipment we take and covers them in the car which wouldn't happen if we used caravan contents cover.

The strange thing is that although the CC caravan insurance does not cover contents such as laptops etc. the CC home Insurance policy does on a new for old basis under 'Unspecified Valuables away from home' It seems you need to declare any one 'expensive' item - they told me 'expensive' was about £700 upwards.

CC Red Pennant is not very good on contents either for phones. laptops etc. but the same comments apply. The home cover also gives 90 days away from home for no extra premium - most other insureres only offer 30 or 60.

My experience tells me the CC and C&CC insurance packages are pretty good compared to the opposition. They are more lenient in terms of security requirements and the "word " is more tolerant of a genuine reasonable breach of a policy term or condition. Each case is of course judged on its own merits. There have been horror stories on here but we cannot name and shame them due to forum rules.
Get as many quotes as you can,
Fully declare all issues about security arrangements and make sure you ask the quoting Insurer to confirm their understanding of what you have said.
Study the small print of the policy wording and make sure you undersatnd without any doubt any special policy terms and conditions imposed whilst the caravan is unattended at any time.
Good luck

Mine is due in December! having got into the swing last year if on the phone, generally quicker than on line because I start by asking them questions, Do you insure for more than 20,000 total insured if they don't we can end the conversation there as that doesn't cover the list price for the van plus mover for new for old cover! Next is do I need a tracker for a twin axle, if that's a yes then another thank you and goodbye. Spent 10 years with the CC until last year but it was just too expensive! My renewal has gone up £60 and they cn't do any better, the CC are £215 more than my renewal but the CCC are 71 cheaper than my renewal. Last year they were as expensive as the CC if not more from memory. Anyway waiting for the CCC policy and a policy from scenic insurance as there is only about a fiver between them. Another problem I have encountered with the van and the cars is that if you are classed as having independent means as opposed to a job or being retired then some won't provide cover either. I really don't understand what difference that one makes to anything if they are getting their money anyway!!! Hey ho all good fun as the car insurance is due on the last day of this month and the other car is due mid December with the van due in between. How's that for silly timing just before Christmas.

Then just declare yourself as retired rather than independent means - there are those of us who stopped work before retirement age and are living on our savings/investments - we're still retired even if not yet eligible for state pension. As long as you declare any part-time jobs and/or voluntary work it shouldn't be an issue.

We got the same type of cover, new for old, for a twin axle with Towergate who were £48 cheaper than CC. The CC is cheaper if you spread the payments over the year as Towergate charge a flat fee of £30, however as I found out this is negotiable. We cannot afford to pay the lump sum in one go, but we can pay a hefty deposit and the balance over 2 months. They agreed to waive the £30 fee.
Also with Towergate & CC, I can have one only one ALKO and a sold secure wheel clamp on instead of both ALKO locks and still qualify for the discount. In addition, I can have the interior alarm disconnected and qualify for the discount as long as the tilt / steady alarms are working. Was a worry not being able to set the alarm when the cat was in the caravan.

I tried saying retired last year but at the ripe old age of 38 then got questioned left right and centre and one or two companies wouldn't even accept that because of my age!!

good point surfer, mine are happy with the bulldog max which of course is much easier to use but no longer available thanks to ALKO and their court case!! Some companies are much more realistically flexable than others!!

I have been with C & CC for several years during which I have recently had 3 claims due to gatepost collision in taking avoiding action.wheel coming off ,and attempted break in
The assessor has been to the house very quickly and the repair bill has been paid no problem
They still give me max no claims
On the totting up of discounts the difference between the discounts on the new Swift(no ATC.no Tracker) over the Bailey (with ATC and Tracker) is zero as discounts are already at the max that they allow
I just covered the 2011 Swift Challenger 570 at current new for old value and the mover.awning, personal effects etc for £334

I have been with C&CC for 4 years now as they were consistently cheaper than CC, but my insurance will be due for renewal in February so I have been obtaining some quotes from what I feel are the more reliable companies based on reviews in forums. CC website was refreshingly simple to use and their quote was very similar to C&CC. Caravanguard came out similar to CC&C, but saga was quite a bit cheaper than the other three but did not include continenntal cover, which since our plans don't include taking the van abroad this year gives Saga the edge. Range was £191 to £130. Clearly I should get a newer van this one isn't costing me enough to run!!
