This is about the fifth recent post about Caravan Insurance. Unfortunately where as there are legally required minimums of cover required by Car insurance, which means comparison sites can compare the essential core requirements needed to meet the road Traffic Act requirements, Caravan insurance has no similar statutory requirement, thus every insurer offering caravan cover may have significant differences in what they provide in the policy. Without common core requirements makes it very difficult to compare policies fairly.
Just because someone names an insurer means very little. You have to look at the details of the policy to see if it provides the cover you want, You can't assume policies from two sources will have the same cover, and unfortunately the devil is in the detail, so you really do need to research the T&C especially looking for ways the company might make claiming difficult. Weasel wording such as "cover only applies whilst the caravan is hitched to tow vehicle" or "when the caravan is occupied" or " when secured by approved security devices"
Forget customer approval schemes which only look at how easy it is to set up the policy, What you need to know is how good is the company is at dealing with claims.
Don't believe the cheapest policy is best, They are probably cheap because they make it difficult to claim.
Whist I am not trying to drive to the policies offered by the clubs, but it has to be acknowledged they tend to understand what caravanners want and need, and their policies to tend to reflect those needs quite well, but there are other major insurance companies who also offer quite comprehensive policies that equal the clubs offerings,
BUT only you can decide which policy meets your needs, so do make sure you read and understand the T&C of any policy you are interested in before you agree to it.
