Is there a comparison site for caravan insurance like with cars? If not, can I get some recommendations and / or know what companies you are all using for your caravan insurance?

I always used one or other of the two Clubs. Not the cheapest but an excellent reputation for efficient settling of claims.

His is about the fifth recent post about Caravan Insurance. Unfortunately where as there are legally required minimums of cover required by Car insurance, which means comparison sites can compare the essential core requirements needed to mee tthe road Traffic Act requirements, Caravan insurance has no similar statutory requirement, thus every insurer offering caravan cover may have significant differences in what they provide in the policy. Without common core requirements makes it very difficult to compare policies fairly.

Just because someone names an insurer means very little, You have to look at th edetails of the policy to see it it provides the cover you want, You can't assume policies from two sources will have the same cover, and unfortunately the devil is in the detail, so you really do need to research the T&C especially looking for ways the company might make claiming difficult. Weasel wording such as "cover only applies whilst the haravan is hitched to tow vehicle" or "when the caravan is occupied" or " when secured by approved security devices"

Forget customer approval schemes which only look at how easy it is to set up the policy, What you need to know is how good is the company at dealing with claims.

Don't believe the cheapest policy is best, They are probably cheap because they make it difficult to claim.

Whist I am not trying to drive to the policies offered by the clubs, but it has to be acknowledged they tend to understand what caravanners want and need, and their policies to tend to reflect those needs quite well, but there are other major insurance companies who also offer quite comprehensive policies that equal the clubs offerings,

BUT only you can decide which policy meets your needs, so do make sure you read and understand the T&C of any policy you are interested in before you agree to it.

Caravan Guard refused to give me a quote after inputting what I believe is the correct information.

I got some quotes from a comparison site ranging from about £250 to about £550.

I also got a quote from CAMC for £560 (plus the cost of joining as I'm not a member at the moment).

The caravan is brand new Sprite Major 4EB and will be kept on a pitch at Fell End in Cumbria for the next year when not being toured elsewhere.

Obviously I have zero NCB as I have never towed before other than a 3 hour towing class.

Is this fairly typical ballpark pricing.

Don’t Swift have a caravan insurance scheme for brand new caravans, and it was with CaravanGuard.

It looks like they do yes - the UI is the same as Caravan Guard, but as mentioned above, this company will not give me a quote online - not sure why as there is nothing unusual about what I am requesting, other than it's my first caravan.

Would you get a quote via Swift then?

I called them - they said that because my seasonal pitch is in a holiday park that does not have a closed security barrier or security guard at the entrance, they will only insure me if I use an Alko Axle Wheel lock which seems to cost nearly £500. Even then their quote is £590.

CAMC are now looking a bit better as their quote was £560 plus £60 for membership and they did not insist on an axle lock. We already bought a second hand wheel lock but I think it's a Milenko one.

As a couple of posters mentioned above, it starts to feel like CAMC don't have as many questions that are designed to allow them to refuse your claim later just because you forgot to set the alarm when you went for a shower or whatever!

Also CAMC have a clear option "Pitched at site" whereas others I looked at have various options for where the caravan is located when not in use, but none of them is clearly designed for a seasonal pitch option.

With CMHC you also have the option of using CS (five van sites) when you take the van on tour. These range from a field with toilet waste disposal and a tap, to some that would put 5 star sites to shame.
