Wife has just bought a new car. Salesman offered the Gen 3 Fusion paint and fabric coating for £250, what do you boys think? To be honest her current car was purchased in June and came with this coating and to date it has never been washed and still looks good.

I have had this type of coating on two cars and two caravans. And they do make exterior cleaning so much easier. £250 is about half price. With one car, I insisted they re-coated. But that was poor application by a main dealership.

I would never buy it as a dealer's "sell-on" - much better to get it from a valeting specialist who would rectify minor blemishes before applying the coating.

Dealers love it as they make a bigger percentage profit on it than selling the actual car. As family members in the trade I know what how much they pay for it.

The Ford dealer offered me a paint deal on my Kuga but it was not £250 but at that price would have said yes .

When I had it done by the Volvo dealership, they had been certified as licensed by the system manufacturers. This was on a 2 year old V70. They must have known they had done a poor job as there was no argument. I was able to watch them work on it via dash cam, they looked quite diligent.

I was offered a coating on a new car, I payed a bit extra and had it done by a local detainer. That main dealer was very accommodating and provided the detainer garage space to do the work. He machine polished the car before applying. The improvement was significant and that was on a brand new car.
