Hi I was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of advice. We are after a Mover for our Bailey Ranger 4 birth (about 11 years old), which is lightweight. After phoning 2 caravan dealers in our area they have suggested the heavyduty Powrtouch with the bar to run across to activate both wheels. But speaking to Powrtouch themselves they have said we only need the compact one without the bar, as they only put that on in tight spaces when you can not get to both wheels.

Relayed this back to other companies to hear there advice and they have not heard of this and would still advise heavy duty one, and say compact ones only for folding caravans.

Any advice.

I don't claim to know anything about caravan movers, but I would have thought that Powrtouch, themselves, would know more about Powrtouch products than the dealers would!

There is no point in paying more for the cross actuator unless as powertouch you cannot access both sides of the van once it's parked.

Unless your idle.

Like spending more money

Or have an obsession to lug more weight around.

Avoid these dealers, they are giving you poor advise!

Also since i bought the Riech mover in 2004, the price of movers have dropped, and more makes are available, looked at all the options, not just powertouch.

I chose the Riech over it!

We have had a Reich mover for about 7 years and it's now on it's third caravan. The only problem we have had is with the handset as the wires to the battery terminals are not very long and twice one has come off. A new handset is around

My friend had the Powrtouch with cross actuator bar until he had an adventure with a high kerb

It was decided to leave the actuator bar off and he much prefers it

With the cross actuator bar you are levering 2 units so its a lot harder to do than levering one at a time

I now have the electic actuator and its really great after 7 years with a Carver and the bar

hi tracey

I have a carver that had the crossbar fitted and to be honest they are a waste of time, I removed it. BECAUSE:- with the hard compound treaded tyres inflated to 45psi and the correct space of 25mm between rollers and tyre you require arms like popeye to engage them as both sides are operated at the same time its hard enough to do just one side on it's own.

the best one is undoubtedly the electric actuated type however if you go for a manual one don,t bother with the crossbar.

oh and by the way if you get one with a wireless remote control keep it safe as they are about

Hi Tracey

My Powrtouch came with the cross actuation bar. It is very stiff although my dealer has tweaked it , now it is easier, but still requires a lot of strength.

The day may come when I just remove it and engage each motor independently.

Unless you are tight on space I wouldn't bother.

If cash is no problem than go down John G's route and had have a power engager.

Cheers

Alan

One reason for going for the 1500kg limit one rather than the 1200kg limit one, is that if you change your van and it is heavier, then the mover will be up to the job.

Pwrtouch units have a 5 year guarantee and your van will be 16 years old by then......

The actuator bar (as well as saving time) can be useful as on a sloping site pitch you may not be able to get enough leverage to full re actuate the mover as the ground can get in the way.

TRACEY,

Have had the Powertouch 5+ years. Even had it changed to my new van 2 years ago. With the 5 year waranty u are quids in and I can confirm it is no quibble as have had several spare parts including a new actuator wrench supplied only last Sept.

I agree with other posts re the actuator bar - unless you are tight for getting round to the other wheel this is un-necessary and you are only carrying round extra weight. On the subject of weight do make sure that you have the weight margin necessary to add this to your current caravan payload....

Also (Don't let anyone tell you different) you will need a 110aph battery to drive it as you will find that your mover is only as good as your available battery power.

Enjoy (I do!)

We have a bailey ranger, max weight 1131kg. The less powerful powrtouch mover is intended for units upto 1200kg and works great with our outfit.

However, Zafiral makes a good point - if you go for a heavier van in the future you might have to fork out on a heftier mover.

Our Powrtouch 3 is the best thing we've bought (except the caravan, of course!) We only ended up with one to enable us to store the 'van at Rob's parent's house and it will have paid for itself in a couple of year's just on the savings made by not paying for storage. We absolutely love it and find siting the caravan anywhere a breeze.

Get one - you'll not regret it!
