Caravan movers remote controls.

Hi all

I was just wondering where everyone stores there remote controls for there caravan movers. As we have just had ours fitted and were advised not to store it in the van as if the van got stolen and remote control was not in there, the person who then owns the caravan phones up powertouch for a replacement remote control and this is one one they can track it for you as they agree to send one out and get address then they phone you to see weather you have sold your van, if not they pass information on to the police. Apparently that happend 15 times last year.

Also do you keep the battery in the remote when you are not using it?

Thanks for your help.

Ours stays in the car glovebox on a little shelf all to itself. Batteries stay in all the time . We are usually away every month. If I was leaving it unused for more than six months I'd remove the batteries.

We keep ours in the pocket on the back of the drivers seat. I fixed a loop of ribbon to it so it hangs around my neck when in use. Saves any chance of it being put down on the 'A' frame fairing, while connecting plugs, breakaway cables, etc and being forgotten and falling off and being run over and .......you'll see where I'm going with this one!

We are talking about a caravan mover, i mean if the caravan is stolen so insurance pays out end of story. I keep ours in a little cubby hole right by the door so all i have to do is reach in and get it. I really would not go to all that trouble of hiding it and certainly would not carry it around.

Surely Robert the object is to avoid having your caravan stolen, and anything that we can do to make it more difficult for the thief must be good ?

We used to store ours in the van but one day went to the storage site to find the vans packed so tightly together that we couldnt open the door to get inside and get it so now it stays at home in a box I have for things caravan associated that go with us

I remove the battery, and i put the remote in the wheel clamp case thats locked in my shed, reasoning that i cant move the van without first removing the wheel clamp so the remote is there as soon as i open the case to get the keys out. Also as you say if anyone nicks it they will have to phone to get a new one and then questions are asked

We keep ours in a drawer at home as we keep the 'van in the back garden. When we are away it is usually kept in a side pocket in the car. Did once leave it on the A frame (not me - him) and had to pull the 'van in with the help of my son and a few friends, so learnt that lesson a while ago!

I am the chap who left his remote control on the roof of the car and happily drove off never to see said remote control again. I have a powertouch - how much did you have to pay for the remote and was it easy to re establish pairing with your van?
