I enquired today about a trade in for another caravan. I was shocked by the price he offered me, Lunar Venus 570/4 2016. Offer was £7500, against a £15000 van. Is this about right? It was from a dealer.

I suspect as it’s from a maker who is no longer producing caravans and not in business.
Lunar specific parts such as interior fittings or body panels may be more difficult to source.
Dealer mark ups of 50% are not uncommon. That’s what I found when I sold my Swift in 2022. But The market conditions now have probably changed as more post covid used models come back in to the market, buyer demographic may have changed along with the effects of inflation and general cost of living pressures.

Bailey parts for my Wyoming are virtually non existent. You’d be amazed at the amount of cabinet woodwork I have diy’d.
When it got bashed a few years ago the awning rail is no longer available. The repairer repaired it, most would have chucked it. So all is not lost.
I suspect body parts for most 10 year old makes will be difficult to source from the manufacturer but there are other markets.
Would that stop you buying one?

Maybe a result of supply and demand. I've mentioned before that I traded in my 2016 Adria MH for a new Adria caravan. It will be 3 years in May. The dealer still has the MH.

That’s taking the proverbial. Without any discount or inducements on the newer caravan the cost to change at £7500 would cover a lot of trips and maintenance. Better start shopping around see what the alternatives are.
In my experience dealers offer low on models they don't particularly want to stock or think they may take longer to sell on.
Caravan workshops have considerable expertise at sourcing parts from other brands to carry out non-warranty repairs - my Lunar needed one of the roof straps replaced to fix a leak and the workshop already knew that Bailey roof straps are better and fit.
It would be interesting how much the resale asking price of Border Billy's caravan would be
I did one of those " we buy caravans sites " and was offered £6300.
Not untypical, it’s the same with cars too. Those sites serve a purpose in that they enable quick conversion of assets in to cash for those who don’t want the hassle of selling privately or need the money. Wonder what your dealer would offer if you were not purchasing another caravan from them. Certainly would not be £7500, they could even decline, or offer a much lower price.
I was thinking I should have got 10k after looking around at other places. I'm in no rush to swap, infact I might just hang on to it.
If I’d got one that I knew it’s history and condition and everything seemed fine I would need convincing to only move up two years to a younger caravan with those sort of finance figures.
When we were selling the Jeep we approached the Buy Any Car and after inspection they offered a silly amount stating the the driver's door had been resprayed when it ha d not. I went to another called Motorway who offered us over £5500 more and the car was sold within 24 hours. The price was also a lot better than the dealer trade in price.
When I sold my Hyundai Santa Fe, I went to We Buy Any Car who offered me a very good price - but the car had been prepared professionally by a valeter ready to go straight onto a Hyundai dealer's forecourt without any further preparation.
WBAC's use of UV lights to show up body imperfections often shows issues from before the owner bought it - even on cars they bought new!
My BIL worked at Jaguar and they had a quarantine area where cars straight off the line were held pending rectification for any body or internal defects. Specialist staff carried out the work.
They never used any UV lights, just normal sunlight. However I was very happy with Motorway who seemed to be more professional.
We took my wife Mitsubishi Colt Attivo to We Buy Any Car they offered very silly price and we got more for it as a part exchange at a VW dealer .

This very scenario describes us . 18 years on we still have the Wyoming. FSH. I’ve fixed most things including appliances and cabinets etc.
Defo better the devil you know. And it still does everything a £45 k one does😎
