Posted for info
I sent the below to Brittany Ferries a while back.
Their reply is below. Their lack of knowledge is a bit worrying I thought.
As I am sure you are aware ALL trailers (over 750kg gross weight) are now required to have their own unique registration mark when in the EU (This is seperate from displaying the reg mark of the towing vehicle). See below link.
https://www.gov.uk/register-trailer-to-take-abroad
This information has not been at all well publicised in the mainstream UK press.
Can I suggest that perhaps BF circulate this very important information, before the holiday season gets underway, to all Club Voyage Members, and in addition add something to your on line booking facility to highlight this vital requirement if a customer clicks on the "Trailer or caravan" button during the booking process?
Their response
Thank you for your email.
We appreciate you highlighting the EU requirement for trailers over 750kg to have their own unique registration mark when travelling abroad. As you mentioned, this information hasn’t been widely publicised in the UK, so we’re grateful you took the time to share it with us. Personally, I was not aware of this requirement.
I have now forwarded your comments and suggestion to our Content Team for their review. We do provide driving advice pages with some of the main requirements here: https://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/information/driving/france. Though, it’s worth noting that even on these pages we advise: “The advice on this page is for guidance only. Rules and laws are subject to change. It is your responsibility to ensure you check and comply with the regulations for the country you are visiting.”
