I hope anyone with experience of having a caravan repaired can give me there comments

I unfortunately damaged our van and put 2 holes about 3i" long into the lower aluminium panel in the side toward the rear of the van. The van is 2years old and we have full insurance.

I have had several quotes from approved dealers, what I am unsure of it the way the van can be repaired, fill or replace the panel? If filled the filler cold crack over time. And I have heard that replacing the panels is very difficult and can result in a horrible (not flat look). I don't like the idea of all the resealing that would be required if the panels are replaced. Does anyone have any experience of this type of repair?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks Mark

Hi Yorkie Puds, Thats the problem i have got 4 quotes all from approved repairers both from manufacturer and Insurance companies, 2 have quoted to replace the panels and the other 2 to fill the holes. There are pros and cons for both methods of repair. cheers Mark

There are two ways (at least) of making a repair

The quicket and cheapes way is to stick something over the damage such as a vent/external power point/reflector/awning heater etc etc

My friend dented his new caravan on the dealer forecourt before he had completed the paper work and they fitted an external shower to cover the dent

Depending on what's inside you could fit a locker door with infill as on Baileys

The standard way of repairing a side is to stick a full length panel over the top

I had this done to the Ace and my friend had it done to the Swift and you could not tell the difference

I would thouraghly recomend F.M. Caravans in Hull after being messed about by BARONS nr. York for best part of a year.I was sent to them (FM)by TC Caravans of South Cave Yorks. who were also very helpful but so busy they could not do the repairs. The owner/Manager at FM was so helpful, professional,Knowlegeable that he could teach some of the big dealer/repairers a thing or two. My Van needed panel repairs and he also cured a long standing motormover problem'
