Caravan Sat Nave phone app

Does anyone have experience of using the Caravan sat nav options on their phone versus the hardware device you can buy?

I've been looking into this and it seems like many of the caravan sat navs get mixed reviews from end users. Even expensive Garmin and Tom Tom units, I can see a lot of reviews stating that it took them down an inaccessible route.

I also looked at the Sygic app on the phone, but it seems to have even worse reviews. The Copilot app does not have Carplay or Android Auto.

It seems like the Tom Tom phone app with a Truck subscription, might give the exact same routing technology as the Tom Tom Camper device, looking at the screen shots, so I might give that a go first. They seem to avoid saying this in their marketing blurb online, but it looks to me like the screen where you enter your vehicle dimensions is identical between the Tom Tom camper devices and the Tom Tom phone app with Truck subscription.

Can anyone confirm that or does anyone have any other experiences of using Caravan satnav?

I don't bother with a specific Caravan sat nav but use the Tomtom Go app and find it very good.

I also have Sygic which was very good at first, years back, but now not so in my opinion. Confusing screen info. So I no longer use it.

Sometimes I'll use Google Maps for short local journeys in an area I don't know.

While not a phone app I use a cheapish HGV sat nav bought on eBay.
To date it's never taken me down any silly roads and will even warn that the destination may be unsuitable if it's a CL down a single track road.

Had several over the years, but best to date is present AguriAGR 760 which takes Car and Caravan dimensions to find suitable routes, discounted price C&CC members.

We use Google maps a lot. However as it is not Caravan specific I cross check it with the caravan site directions and look at an AA road map book ( my friend calls it “analogue Google”). To be fair it has generally been been very good.
This is unlike our Avtex Caravan specific sat nav unit which told us to turn left on to a hair pin bend and a single track road. This was on a road still local to us so we knew it well; and a turning I would not have attempted solo; never mind with a van on the back.

Another advantage of Google is the ability to see your route into the caravan site using Street View so you can familiarise yourself with location points around the area. IE Petrol station, pedestrian crossing, school etc.
