Caravan security

I am looking for a door bolt or something similar for fitting on the inside of the caravan door. have looked on line but can find nothing that would suit. does anyone know of a product

Sorry cannot help, from experience, having asked a caravan security question, expect a WIDE range of comments. !

I haven't fitted one so I can't offer any recommendation, but Milenco make a high security door lock that can be locked from the inside or outside.

Fiamma Safedoor Guardian Locks. For internal fitting one top and bottom of door. A Milenco multi lock can be fitted inside.

The best security I had was a Bullmastiff and a Great Dane.
They certainly put off the opportunist thief on more than one occasion, both times in service areas when the person showing a lot of interest in the van hitch looked up straight into the face of the Bullmastiff and being looked down upon by the Great Dane..................he suddenly decided he had a place to be,,,,,,fast!

The Milenco unit as linked by Parksy looks good, similar to the Fiamma door lock but with the advantage of being able to lock from inside the van as well.
If your intention is for security when the van is unattended, then in reality if they want it.............they WILL have it, regardless of security.

I am not5sure Damien is entirely correct on his suggestion that if they want to get in they will. It does apply to some thieves who will carry on whatever you do, but in most cases they are looking for an easy target, and if your caravan is more secure than the next one, then it is the next one they will go for. Given the right circumstances they might go for both but the more security you use the better your chances of not being the unlucky one.

My personal view is that advertising that the caravan is alarmed is more effective than having extra locks and bolts.
I came to this conclusion on seeing demonstrations of just how easy it is to gain entry by the caravan or motor home windows.

I have a flashing red led with signage in the door window stating the caravan is alarmed.
Occasionally I sound the alarm just to let whom it may concern know the racket they would have to endure should they open the door or mess with the windows.
The alarm is not powered by the caravan battery ..........it has a hidden seperate supply.

I do that at times, normally after being down the pub.

I think that the OP is looking to be able to lock the door from inside when using the caravan. Could the alarm system be armed when the caravan has people inside?

Understand but does it have internal sensors which unless they can be switched off the people inside would activate.

I would also look at where the alarm siren is fixed and how easy it is to get at it. On our last caravan the siren was in the front bed locker aimed through a grill in the floor. Frankly it would have taken a thief seconds to rip it out possibly, before it even sounded, so it was not something I could rely on. On the positive side it did save me £30 or so on the insurance. This location would be the makers standard fit and thieves might have known where to look.
I am not sure where yours is situated but it might be worth checking if it is vulnerable.

My system is bespoke and was fitted by myself so a potential thief / vandal will have no idea how it works or where the 118dB siren is fitted.
Suffice to say it would be a lot of hastle to stop it sounding once they had figured it out.

To clarify....................
My point to the OP was that they are trying to improve security when they are actually at home in their caravan.
I personally do not see the point (in that scenario) of fitting an extra door lock since it is well known how to gain entry via caravan windows.
The standard door lock is more effective than the closures fitted to caravan windows.
I presumed the OP wanted extra security whilst they were sleeping in their caravan.

A prominent flashing red led has come to signify a fitted alarm and these leds are readily available...........................they don't necessarily have to be connected to an alarm to be an effective deterrent

I accept that you cannot stop a determined thief or vandal.

A bespoke system is best. Thieves hate do it yourself alarms as they cannot be sure how easy it is to deal with them so you are safer than most others with that.

For those with recent Sargent systems these units have the facility to add domestic style door sensors and even power a visible alarm LED. Their website does sell these items at a price, but the sensors and wiring are available for very little money. A weekend will significantly improve your electronic security
