Just got back from the caravan show, had a look in a few new caravans seems they dont build them like they used to or am I getting old. I was constantly finding fault with flimsy doors and handles, also as I dont (cant afford) use electric hookups the power drain of new vans was a concern, the radio speakers have fancy lights that flash when used, could not see the point in that.

also looked at the new wheel clamp that fits through the wheel spokes ( I think its made by alko) it must have been designed by a non caravanner good idea but usless in practice when trying to pitch on an unlevel site with ramps. It reminded me of the combined waste and water carrier that came out a few years back good idea but useless.

Once I had got my new solar panel we left as the halls were to hot even in shirt sleeves and I had turned into Victor Meldrew.

Yes you can take your own food, you can leave your coats with the cloak room attendant in the foyer before you go in wished we had I ended up in my T shirt it was so hot in there. I have blue badge so we parked on a meter in the street free all day, I did notice that the GMEX car park had a full notice across the enterance and it was only 10.30am

We plan on visiting the SECC next month for the Scottish Show. As we bought our new van last September we obviously won't be buying another, but will of course look at the new ones on show, and make lots of comments!!!. The main purpose of the visit is, a day out, and to raid the accessory stands who usually have discounts on offer. I do agree that I wonder who designs some of the new vans, they obviously don't actually use them. I am aslo amazed at the number of 2nd hand vans you see where the oven has never been used, but this is evidently an essential. Who are they kidding??

Have to agree with you there Alex, we went to both GMex & NEC last year and found that the Gmex was OK for a van but if you are more interested in accesories then the NEC is better. So this year we are only doing the NEC and in fact taking the van and having 2 days, so we can have more time to look at the boats too. I was most impressed last year with them.

We went to G-Mex on Saturday. We parked in the multistorey car park at the Stretford Arndale for free, caught the Metrolink to G-Mex for less than a fiver and whilst queueing to go in, some one was offering advance paid tickets at face value. So Mr & Mrs Johnson, I'm sorry you missed the show but thanks to your friends we got in for a tenner. Not having been for a couple of years we felt it was less crowded than before without all the static 'vans and by 4.30 it had gone very quiet. It was interesting to see the fixed bed models and we have perhaps seen our next 'van. It was also interesting to see all 4 of the caravan movers.
