Caravan spare part prices

A rhetorical question??
Why are Dometic fridge spares so expensive? I need a new igniter battery unit for my RM8550. £70. The grey plastic button is £16. Meanwhile the gas dial, galvanometer, is £40.
I doubt we will bother fixing it as we rarely use the fridge on gas. Just annoys me that caravanners are seen as an easy touch.

DD with the present economic environment we can expect these additional expenses but owning and caring for a van is great, I think it is one of the more easily accessible way of seeing the UK and further afield. I have no complaints about this,

This comes up every so often and the answer is always the same.
1. Numbers,,,,,in comparison to may other spares for things, caravan equipment spares are low volume items and as such tend to cost more.
2. The price is what they can get away with.

Having said all that, a new wing mirror for my Vectra cost me over £200 , a new key fob costs over £160, a window switch is £27 from dealers.

I know Damian. What really gets me is a new diesel fuel injector on my Touareg is £12.00 . It is a highly specialised piece of precision kit. My fridge is 12 years old and before long most spares will be thrown away . Absolute greed. But then I am stuck with it. Rant over thanks.

£12.00!!! I had some changed on an XTrail about 15 years ago. Out of the 4 only 1 could be reconditioned, I think the cost was well over£1,000. I was pleased it was an insurance job. When done the car felt NO different.

I think you were fleeced John!

Oh yes Hutch. My faux pas 😢😢😢.Yes they were the heater plugs not injectors. Just as well because by John’s figures I’d be well fleeced today😇😇

I remember a business lecturer telling me that when you bid a contract or price an item price it at what you think is the highest selling price you can get to achieve the sale.

No chance, you are a captive buyer, or could it be a distressed purchase? Pound signs would be flashing before my eyes as you made your enquiry 😂

An injector might only be £12 but most VW spares are expensive - Damian's "lucky" with a £200 mirror, it was about £1,400 to replace one on my Touareg.

Aren't many parts in a caravan the same for Domestic use i.e. some taps, showers, pipes, door handles, hinges etc?

My Wyoming kitchen and bathroom taps are courtesy of Screwfix. Identical to the oem. But 1/3rd the price. Carpets , remnants and fully fitted by me. Superior to the oem. And the list goes on.
