Caravan Spares

Just back from a 3 week trip to the New Forest, whilst there the wife inadvertently let the fridge freezer compartment slip and it snapped closed breaking the two hinges.
Got on to the caravan manufacturer's spares web site and sourced replacement hinges - cost - £15.00 something plus £6.00 delivery - £21.00 pounds per hinge !
Decided to check prices at local caravan shop - result - £9.95 per hinge and no delivery charge!
It was a no brainer ! and replacement hinges now fitted and working fine.
OK I can understand manufacturer has to pay to set up spares systems - but at over 100% more expensive I will be checking in future prices before I buy anything from them.

You did well to find those hinges in an accessory shop. One of ours broke when something prevented the freezer door shutting properly, and then the main fridge door shut on to it. I remember paying quite a high price on line to make the repair - been more careful since!

chrisn7,
The fridge concerned is a Dometic,it seems that the need for replacement parts for caravan fridges is quite common.I also tried the Dometic website and even their prices are similar to what I eventually paid although there is a delivery charge half the cost of the caravan manufacturer's spares delivery costs.
In future I'll always try the original manufacturer's websites before trying the caravan manufacturer's website.

I broke a freezer compartment hinge whilst I was away in Spain last winter. I found several suppliers on ebay but not all of them were willing to post abroad.

If parts look expensive it is always worth a look on Amazon and e bay. One or two dealers also have good web sites that might help but if you are away and need tne bit you are probably stuck with whatever the local dealer has in stock.
