Just went out to check the steadies on our Coachman VIP due the horrendous weather and when I tried to tighten one of the rear steadies, the handle just went round and and no pressure on the ground. It wouldn't wind up or down. I checked them last December (similar weather) and they were fine and the van hasn't been moved. Could the thread have gone, or googling it seemed to suggest a nut needed replacing. They are heavy duty steadies and again from googling seem to be Stabilform - but where do i get the parts from ? The van is 10 years old and we have had it from new.

Think for any Coachman spares you will be directed to visit your Dealer if an approach is made to Coachman. Also think any good caravan accessory shop will be able to provide.
Sorry not in a position to advise of reason for failure. As a common part, sure someone will be able to assist.

As it's not the weather to crawl under the van to inspect the steady .... but you need to really get down & watch what is happening when the winder is being turned, was it a manual winder that you were using or a drill type ???.... anyway new.... nuts can be found here .... and although the new nuts are cheap there could well be a problem with the thread .... so here is a link to some new heavy duty steadys ....

Thanks for the replies and links. We have never used a drill, always the handle, so they haven't been over tightenend. My husband is going to take the leg off to see what is needed and hopefully we can get a spare part as the whole leg isn't cheap. Wondering too what made it suddenly go unless it is just these gales shaking the van - we live in SW Wales so have taken a pounding of late.

I would say unlikey for the corner steady nut to fail ie strip due to the depth of the thread, as pointed out you need to see the whats happening when underneath the van, not easily done in this weather?
The thread winder bolt is fixed to the nut winding end by means of a mill pin if i remember correctly? This could of sheared causing the nut to spin and the threaded bar to stay still? Easy to replace the pin but access is awful and will require the steady to be removed. Sounds easy?? well they are secured through the floor with a coachbolt and a nylon lock nut, problem arises as the coach bolt spins as it only has the floor ply to try and hold the head and you cant grip it, plus access might not be good with unit above it or the rear shower cubicle?
With it down it means it cannot be towed to the dealer.
Using a drill wouldnt make any difference , but the hand method if they are stiff you would tend to keep going

Once the wind and rain stopped here is SW Wales my husband took the steady off and found that the nut was in pieces. The bar was fine. The number on it is 357864 and 20 stamped on it so assume it is 20mm. I have had a quick 'google' for the part, but can anyone point me to where I can buy this part ?
Many thanks
