Caravan Taps

Well I'm on holiday in Padstow and my delightful other half turned the cold water tap on in the kitchen area and managed to do something to it. i don't know what or how but the tap will not turn on and the the knob just spins round and round like its no longer latching on

anyone know how this could be fixed? the caravan is an elddis xl 2000 but the taps are general whale taps

thanks

Keith

I expect the taps are Whale Elegance.

If you pull the top of the tap off, you should see a splined shaft which has either stripped the splines or snapped off at the lower end in the tap.

Any good caravan spares shop should have replacement splied shafts, or maybe complete tap top and shaft.

If it has snapped off, getting the old bit out is a bit tricky.

You will neeed a long thin screw with a sharp point, screw it into the old bit a little and pull the old spline out.

Push the new shaft into place and refit the tap top.

Exactly the same happened to me (or my partner should I say). Damien is spot on with the cause but I had no luck sourcing splines or even tap tops + splines. I eventually bought a complete twin tap unit, which was lucky because the other spline went soon afterwards. Costly solution but on the positive side I have lots of nozzles, microswitches etc ready for the next problem.

Hi Keith,

For what it's worth, we have a 2000 Elddis Cyclone GTX and our taps are Reich Charisma.

Are you sure yours are Whale?
