Caravan theft and insurance cover?

Caravans appear quite vulnerable to theft, particularly when unprotected. Have any of you had one stolen or lost it to fire, etc.?

Are there statistics published anywhere about caravan thefts?

I imagine that with well considered security precautions, the risks will be reduced significantly.

Bearing in mind that comparison sites, insurance brokers, insurance companies and underwriters all take a cut from your policy cost, and are doing very well out of it thank you, the cumulative cost of buying insurance must be considerably greater than the claims paid out, or they wouldnt do it. The largest potential claim is probably a third party injury whilst towing, and car insurance covers that.

It seems to me that depending on the value of your caravan, a few years insurance premiums can cumulatively excede its value and so, maybe self indemnifying could be a viable option.

What do you think?

I would think the risk of claims by third parties might be one charge that goes against self indemnity. A fire that affects adjacent caravans could be expensive. But if a Premuim is £500 for example how many years of saved premiums is required to cover a total loss, or theft?
