After a long trawl through tyre suppliers to obtain Trailermaxx tyers which were OEM fit I drew a blank. I was offered car or commercial van tyres that were incorrect as far as load rating was concerned. I then looked at the GT Radial tyer company web site. Their GT Maxmiler tyres can be seen on vans. But they have a specific caravan /trailer tyre called Kargo Max and it comes in two versions, ST 4000 and ST 6000. This tyre is specifically designed for van and trailers in a range of sizes and load ratings. Mine was £63 (each) from Pneus-Online and that was shipped from Holland. Fitting will ad £12 but I now feel comfortable that I have a suitable tyre for the van. I have contacted GT Radial and told them that they could be more proactive in marketing their tyres.

Well my new GT Radial Kargomax ST6000 has arrived from Holland only three days after ordering it. It is a trailer specific commercial tyre with a load rating of 102/104 and 'N' speed rating. It has 5 ply on the tread and 2 on the sidewalls!!

My van only requires a 96N tyre but for the small extra cost I chose the ST 6000 as opposed to the ST 4000. At least I can now be confident that I have a tyre made speciccaly for trailer use that meets in full the recomendations of the caravan maker.

I did try Camskill, but they only had Matador and Triangle in my size, and Matador were not the correct load rating. Also Matador as a company will not support their tyres on caravans. I spoke to them last year and they were not prepared to discuss caravan use. This was because of previous problems and the fact that caravans are generally loaded to the maximum (or beyond), and sit for weeks doing nothing. The GTRadial Kargomax is a specific caravan/trailer tyre so although it is more expensive than some others it gives agood load rating, and I feel happy with them. After all with 30K worth of outfit what is another
