Caravans and tractors...

Pulling off with a caravan to let following cars pass is easier said than done. There are not so many opportunities. You need a lay-by with a good length of empty space available. In North Devon for example lay-bys of any sort are rare as hen's teeth. It is easier for a tractor as (if they are not towing at least) they can pull in by any field gate, and without fear of getting stuck in mud.

Why pull over? Cars with caravans are allowed to go faster than large HGVs on all (?) roads and you don't see them pulling over to let cars pass. 😗

Usually, even when there isnt a single car following me, some idiot will have to risk his life and mine by pulling out in front of me. The attitude of anything is preferable to being behind a caravan. I cant recall every being waved out at a junction with the caravan on the back. The number of times Im cut up at road works, by some idiot who refuses to sit behind me, even though Im doing the same speed as him.

So, when the general motoring public starts to treat caravanners with a bit of resepct, I may consider pulling over to let Mondeoman pass me. Until then, he can go whistle.

So, as part of my ongoing campaign to improve the image of caravanning among the wider public, could I politely suggest that the readers of Practical Caravan be leading lights in this regard, pulling over when there’s just one car behind you.

NO DONT SUGGEST IT!!!!

Hello All,

have you had any experiences on importing the caravans to Australia? When I shipped my caravan to Australia, I asked the advise from a shipping agent called shipfromuk who specialise in this field and they advised me on all requirements and also appoint a customs clearance agent in Australia to handle all the customs formalities for you, and also advise caravan to be shipped in a container less risk of damage and offer the marine insurance if you wish to put on my caravan.
