Caravan's first service

Our van is due for its first service, purchased from Discover Newport which has closed down. We have another dealer close buy who does servicing. Will we be able to use these and not effect our warranty.

As long as it is a NCC Approved Workshop, you can have the servicing done by them , if they are able and willing to do it.

Not so sure about NCC approved, l am sure on early posts Swift stated they only allow servicing at Swift approved dealerships as they are Swift trained technicians see early posts on this issue.

To be sure Andy or Ash from Swift can answer this question, l am sure they will pick up on this post.

l has the same problem, Warrington closed down have to travel to Chorley for warranty issues.

l can have it serviced at a Northern Caravans (only 6miles away) as they are a Swift dealership for Sterling Caravans, it won't invoke the warranty.

For warranty work that l have to have done l have to take it back to the dealership l bought from i.e. Discover Chorley or Harrington's at Delamere both 40 mile round trip.

Nigel, to clarify the position of Swift.

The Annual Service can be carried out by any NCC Approved Workshop, or Approved Mobile Workshop.

Repairs to the van itself must be done by a Swift Approved repairer.

Repairs to the items fitted inside, such as the fridge, water heater etc can be done by any of the manufacturers approved service technicians, (i.e Dometic, Thetford, Truma).

Damian you maybe correct but l would like Andy or Ash of Swift to confirm this as l have very good mobile fitter NCC approved which l would like to use.

Andy/ Ash can you confirm what the Moderator has said, would save me a great deal of money.

My van is only 8 months old, l need to know so l don't invoke any warranty issues.

Damian / NGH Sorry should have said earlier, caravan is a Baily Pageant series 7 does what you are stating apply to baily dealerships.

Kieran, yes, any Approved Workshop or Approved Mobile Workshop can do your annual service.

Repairs can only be done by Bailey approved agents, which may be the same person if it is a job which can be done by a mobile unit of they have serviced your van, or a dealership if the mobile cannot accomodate the repair.

Kieran - if you sre from South Wales I can recommend Caravan Master at Pontyclun, Nr. Llantrisant for servicing and repair. I have used this firm for annual service many times and they have also called to my home to undertake work on the van with no extra charge for call out. They are fully approved for all main caravan manufacturers and also National Caravan Council.

Hi

We bought a SWIFT Challenger 560 in Spring 2008 and were using Discover Orpington from whom we bought it new, for some uncompleted warranty work.We then moved house to East Kent and were about to use Discover Herne Bay. Imagine our surprise when we rang Discover HB to book in caravan only to get an answerphone message- no longer open.We now have to take our SWIFT about 100 miles away for warranty work. SWIFT do not appear to be approving new workshops in Kent.

Any comments?

Roger, it is probably that Swift want to charge dealers or Mobile Workshops a very hefty annual registration fee to work on their vans, so maybe dealers and workshops are not prepared to buy in to this.

Only casualties will be customers,,a shot in the foot by Swift I think
