Carbon monoxide detector placement

Whereabouts in the caravan do you place your carbon monoxide detector, mine has been by the front door next to the smoke alarm, is that the best place?

Ours are located by the door. I assume the location has been assessed by the designers. (That might be a joke).

But our van just has the one door. 🤓

CO is almost the same weight as air so it does not sink to the floor, Eego you can fit it anywhere convenient.

However your fire alarm is likely to be a standard unit that detects heat and smoke. Consider replacing it with either a heat only or heat plus delayed smoke so that it doesn't keep going off if the toast gets a bit overheated.

Our fire detector was near the door and had a noise suppression button, so if it squarked when grilling etc it would be suppressed for a few minutes . Carbon monoxide detector was mounted towards bedroom end on wardrobe wall about six foot above caravan floor.

The smoke alarm going off is the usual indication that dinner is ready…….

Depends on the layout of your van. If you have the ability to close off the sleeping area you might be best to have one in there.

Given the size of our van we could probably put it anywhere. They've mounted it on the ceiling. Smoke detector one end, CO the other.

Both next to the exit door. Must be a design feature to avoid spoiling the aesthetics 🤪🤪

On the subject of detectors, how long do yours last. Detector and/or battery.

My van is only just over 5 years old. One smoke detector died last year which we replaced. It went through 2 batteries before dying.

The new one started going off this morning so as it's on the driveway I took the battery out. Must be less than a year old.

These are Fire Angel detectors which I thought were supposed to be good.

My 4 year old Kidde smoke detector started eating batteries every 3 months. Binned it and replaced with a Fire Angel integral battery. Allegedly a 10 year life span🙀
