Carrying bikes whilst towing

This may seem a daft question but I've had many conflicting answers to this one. If I carry bikes (whilst towing) on a rear mounted cycle carrier attached to the towbar, is the noseweight increased? I would have thought it would! Others have said no....

your straight answer is YES,and i read in a caravan magazine that these are becoming illegal because on some turning circles and especialy on reverseing they can be pretty close to the van and i do know of one caravanner that done damage that way,

My opinion only, no the nose weight would not increaase, as the nose weight is the van, BUT when I put my cycle carrier on then the van, I found I could not turn correctly, okay going forward, could not reverse. Bit of advise do not put bikes on the back of the car when towing.

I have to get a roof carrier.

Yes and no !!

The noseweight of the caravan isn't increased but the towball load is increased.

You need to observe the car's noseweight limit and that of the towbar by adding the weight of bike rack and bikes to the caravan's noseweight.

Roger is right its about towball weight limits.We put our bikes in the van wrapped in an old blanket, worked fine for us
